Just rocked my new Blichmann burner for the 1st time. That thing is a freaking beast! However it was also my first experience with outdoor brewing. Just one question: how many IBU do you think you get from 1 lightning bug @ 30 min?

It's electric!

No worries. I was paranoid about brewing outdoors at first, now not so much.

The only thing that will make me cancel an outdoor brewday is high wind. Nothing more miserable than trying to brew in the wind.

Lightning bug? I'm in the middle of a major 17 year cicada invasion. I've been lucky the last couple of brew days but today i came out during the boil to find a big fat sucker floating in the wort. Oh well flick it out and proceed, some people call them the shrimp of the land, i think i'll pass.

throw a metal screen over the brew kettle. it doesn't act like a lid, but keeps the bugs out.
