Re-Planting rhizomes

I thinned my three year old Centennial a few weeks ago and panted two rhizomes in pots. A friend of mine would like to transplant them in his yard. Both have one nice thick bine and one small bine (aprox 4 inches tall).

I was going to take them in the pot and attempt extract them without to much damage to the bines/roots.

When is the best time to move these across town?

Is there method that has worked well for you?

Sooner the better.

My daughter gave me a potted hop last year. It had a three foot bine on it and I just replanted it at the same time as I planted some bare rhizomes. It did great and is back with lots of healthy bines this year. Like B-Hoppy said, the sooner the better.

Just be super gentle in shaking the dirt off the roots, don't use any tools that might cut roots, and it'll be fine.

Just plant the whole root ball when the freeze is over, you will be fine.
