I am new to home brewing and I was looking for a kettle. In my search I had a neighbor that was moving give me what I believe might be a kettle. I am just confused as to why there is a hole drilled in the bottom of the pot. Is this kettle for brewing or this there another use for this pot? or did I inherit a 20lb piece of scrap metal.

Thanks in advance

Chris

Not sure what it was originally but could be used a mash tun or brew kettle. You would need to drain from the side if you want to fire it with a propane burner.

Is either of the side holes threaded inside? I cannot tell from the picture.

Or do a fire ring around the whole tank .

Here are a few pics. It looks like there are threads on the side holes.
