Hi all,
I am looking for input on my mash tun. I have done a fair amount of research on the design, but am a bit stuck on what to use for my cooler. I had been using a 10 gallon rubbermaid cooler with a false bottom, which is awesome. I will continue to use it for smaller batches, but with some new 22 gallon kettles, I want to be able to do up to 15 gallon batches. With that said, I have the following cooler.
Cambro Cooler 19" x 19" x 19" (roughly 30 gal)
I imagine I would use as little as 20 lbs and as much as 56 lbs.
I am worried about the grain bed depth on the smaller end, and its overall size. When I fill it with 20 lbs of unmilled grain it gives me a bed depth of exactly 4 inches (palmer's min recommendation). I imagine that the bed volume increases when milled and wet. I built a eherms system and want to keep all sparging options open. Should I be worried about the size of this thing? Thanks for any help.
