I see where a lot of brewers mount their pumps in metal or plastic boxes to keep the outside dry.

Does that cause issues with heat buildup? Do the pumps get very hot?

I'm thinking of putting my pump (when I get one, soon) into a plastic toolbox and am wondering if I should include some kind of ventilation.

They will get warm, but I don't really run mine for more than an hour at a time. I have a toolbox mounted pump, and if I think of it, I'll prop the top open a little (which will still keep the motor pretty much splash-proof), but most of the time I forget and leave it shut.

i leave mine shut all the tiem and have a much smaller tool box than most people on here...no issues in the past 10 months of use.
