Coconut question

I am brewing an extract kit (coconut porter). The kit also comes with coconut extract. It is an "all natural" extract and smells amazing.

In addition to using the kits extract, I was also thinking about adding some toasted coconut in the secondary. I would like a stronger coconut flavor and I like the idea of adding some real fruit.

Has anyone ever combined real coconut in the secondary along with some extract?

get some unsweetened flaked coconut. about 28 oz. toast it in the oven, put it in some grain bags and toss in secondary bucket

from what I have used and tasted, my palate says even 28oz was not enuff........but seeing there is coconut extract in the primary, maybe 16oz is enuff

yeah if it was just coconut I'd say 28 as well, I did 16oz with a RIS and it wasn't quite enough, will double up next time for sure.

do you recommend using a hop-bag/grain bag to put the coconut flakes in? or could i just throw them in the secondary loose?

Use a muslin bag.

I threw my toasted coconut flakes directly in the secondary.
