Ok so today I brewed for the first time with my propane burner. The propane burner has a regulator and with the tank and the regulator wide open I was still not getting blue concentrated flames and the flames got sute all over my pot and created a huge mess. AnyoneElse experience anything like this?

Have you adjusted the opening on your Venturi?
Open/ close it until you get a blue flame. The gas doesn't need to be full open to adjust properly.

You did get instructions w/ your burner?
Where the gas line attaches to your burner there should be a "trumpet" shaped pipe. Also, there is a metal disk that you can rotate that opens a slot in this "trumpet", ie,, Venturi. It controls the airflow to the burner. It is usually secured by a screw. Loosen the screw and open up the slot to adjust the airflow & hence your flame.
