My general approach is to buzz the sides and back and then cut the top with scissors until my hands start cramping from muscle fatigue and then stop.

It all evens out in a week or so anyway.

i buzz the whole head, #2 on back, side, #5 for top...and honestly brewing i always thought at first i should look like jedediah smith....colm over, from the bear attack!

There will be failures. There will be less than palatable beer. Most all of us did it starting out. It will get better though as you learn more and improve your process.

Two biggest things beginners need to succeed early on are SANITATION and temperature control. I think lack of these are there primary reason for beginners failing and giving up.
