Hello,

A couple of days i found this behind in my fermenter it seems like an infection.
But iam not sure.
It is the first time i used the fermenter i cleaned it with pbw and sanitized it with star san but no passivation. The krausen ring looks black.
And under the krausen ring it really looks like an infection. I sanitized very well.
What do you guys think?

Sorry for my bad english i'am from belgium🤣

The black krausen ring is a fairly commonly reported thing with stainless steel fermenters, particularly new ones. It may be due to some manufacturing residue. That said, I have two stainless steel fermenters, but I have never seen this in mine. I did clean them very thoroughly before their first use though.

And under the krausen ring what does it look like?

It looks a little odd, but it might just be yeast with some of the black, oily residue mixed in. How does the beer taste?

I think it didn't taste odd🤣
I bottled it either way. But under the krausen is were i worry a lot about.

The black ring would concern me more then the possibility of a pellicle. I don’t know what that could be, but in 15 years of brewing I’ve never seen one.
