Amber glass jugs good for primary?

I have someone who will sell me amber gallon jugs for 50cents each. Are they good for making mead or cider in?
 
Yeah, they'd be fine...just wouldn't be able to see as well what's going on with clearing, etc. Also, FWIW, skunking is unique to hopped brews, so with most meads (ie, unless you were doing a hop metheglin) it wouldn't be an issue. When I make hopped meads, I do like I do with my beers, and just drape a towel over the fermenter when I'm not working with it.
