My wife and I are planning a road trip from Chicago to Nashville at the end of June. We will probably be spending 3 nights in Nashville. Neither of us have been there. We could use some help filling our schedule so please throw out as many suggestions for places to see, things to do, places to eat, bars/brewpubs/breweries to visit, and of course beers to drink while we are there. Thanks in advance.

Definitely go to the Flying Saucer. Amazing beer selection and overall cool place.

Check out the strip downtown with all the lights. Walk around and people watch and hit up some of the bars and listen to country music.

Visit the Parthenon (repilica).

Enjoy. Nashville is a fun city.

Yazoo & Frugal Mcdougal, just down the road.
Frugal Mcdougal for hotel room beverages.

The Pharmacy is one of my new favorite restaurants. Slightly hipster though. Like fixie riding, big earring, converse shoes, & slightly rude to customers type hipster.

Visit the Hermitage, which was Andrew Jacksons home. Also, a few years back we did the touristy Grey line tour of the country stars homes, and it was really pretty damned cool, actually got to meet little Jimmy Dickens. And of course, there's always the Opry, if it's at the Ryman, you should make every effort to go.

Big River Grille and Brewery in downtown has great food and some good beer. Also, try Blackstone brewery.

Non beer activities I definitely advise the Ryman.

If you take a trip slightly south then visit Turtle Anarchy Brewery. They are located in Franklin and have some pretty tasty brews.

Big River is not Big River any more. It is a Rock Bottom now.

Yazoo is a good stop. They now have a barrel aged sour program with Brandon Jones from Embrace the Funk. There are a couple on tap right now but it rotates.

Cool Spring Brewery is doing some outstanding beers these days. Lately they Mango IPA and the Saison he has had on are just killer.

Turtle Anarchy is doing good stuff and has a nice tap room.

Blackstone is always solid. Adam Bomb IPA is rocking it right now.

Mid Town Wine and Spirits is better than Frugal's. Also great for bottles is Craft Brewed Nashville and The Bottle Shop in Franklin.

Corsair Artisan Distillery is well worth a stop for local fine craft spirits and a great location. They are in the old Yazoo location in the Marathon Factory building.

There are several good beer bars and places with good food and beverage selections. Flying Saucer is one Broadway Brewhouse is another. M.L. Rose Craft Beer and Burgers, Burger Republic, and if you want some good BBQ while you are down hit up Martin's. The 12 South area and the 12 South Tap Room are also nice.

Almost forgot The Pharmacy in East Nashville. Old school soda fountain drinks, malts, and seltzers. Great burgers, nice beer selection, and a very nice beer garden and patio area to engoy the weather if it is nice. http://thepharmacynashville.com/

Oh if you want some fine dining recommendations for a big night out let me know. I have more than a few. Several local chef's are moderately active with the craft beer scene and do occasional beer dinners especially during Nashville craft beer week.

There is plenty of stuff to see that is non beer related. You could worship at the house of music and catch a show at the Ryman. Try to get in and see the Schermerhorn Symphony Center. The architecture and the facility are pretty amazing. It is also near the Country Music Hall of Fame which is actually a really nice building as well even if you are not a country music fan.

I enjoy walking around old downtown Franklin TN. It is a bit trendy and spendy but it does have a great restored small main street square feel. Plenty to nibble on or drink around there as well. Also close is The Factory in Franklin. Mellow Mushroom Pizza on the square in Franklin has a nice tap selection. It is a chain but the food is decent although for a Chicago guy you might find the California style pizza selection less than ideal for your tastes. Lieper's Fork area is also close.

You could take a day drive down the Natchez Trace Parkway. I would recommend hitting some of the previously mentioned beer and food folks to pack yourself a picnic. Drive down, a bit make a few stops, have a nice picnic lunch, turn around and return to Nashville.

My favorite brewery in town is Bosco's. They tap a cask conditioned ale every Monday and Friday at 5:30 and they have an awesome happy hour - $3 beers and $5 foods. It's in a part of town called Hillsboro Village which is great for walking. Lots of shops and restaurants and bars. Check it out!

old thread but i'm hoping someone can give me a few pointers. currently booked at the sheraton nashville downtown but might be able to stay at the hyatt place downtown. either location have advantages? any good stores to get local beers for the room without transportation? thanks in advance - rb

The Hyatt is slightly more walkable. Most of the bars and restaurants downtown are a little closer to it. Only a few blocks difference however.

If you are going to anything in the new City Center/Convention Center the Hyatt is also closer. Again small differences in distance.

Closest good bottle shop is Midtown Wine and Spirits on 1610 Church St, Nashville, TN 37203. Just the otherside of I-40/I-65 from downtown. Not really walkable. You could easily and cheaply Uber or Lyft to it though.

You can also buy beer at Yazoo Brewing which is in the area known as the Gulch just off downtown. Trendy area with plenty of restaurants and bars. Yazoo is one of the original craft breweries in Nashville and they also have the ETF line of beers, Embrace the Funk, from Brandon Jones. Barrel aged, wild, funky, and sour beers. Worth a stop if you can make it. Tap room usually has good food trucks there during prime tap room hours.

There is not much retail downtown as much of the focus there is tourism, night life, food, and consume at purchase beverage.

MidTNJasonF,
Thanks in advance for the great information. Couldn't get in the Hyatt so i'm staying at the Sheraton. A few extra blocks to walk off the beers might do me good. thanks again.

straycat - I used to live in Hendersonville ~ 25 miles north of Nashville. If you like baby back ribs, go to Calhouns. Best baby back ribs and pulled pork I've ever had.

Key words here are "used to live"

Calhouns, if it is even still open, is not remotely worth going to. I believe it closed a little while back anyway. The area it was in has had a pretty serious downturn. Everything of value moved to Hendersonville. If it has been a while since you have been to Hendersonville VAPatriot you would not recognize it. Huge growth.

Peg Leg Porker or Martin's BB-Q joint is where you want to go for BB-Q in this town now.

We used to go to the one across from Rivergate Mall. Sad news indeed. Almost as sad as when Texana Grill out by Hickory Hollow changed ownership then closed I think. And yes it's been quite a while.
