"Earthy" Taste?

You know that aftertaste you get with Fat Tire?

I don't know how to describe it, it reminds me of fresh turned earth. I don't mean it tastes like dirt, but "earthy".

What causes that taste?

I have a hint of it in my new Dunkel Weiss. Pretty nice, actually.

I would think the taste that you are describing comes from the yeast. Pacman yeast if I recall correctly.

Hops can add an earthy character. What flavor hops did you use in your Dunkel?

It was an AHS kit.

Cascade hops, WB-06 yeast.

Cascades are "earthy," or "grassy" if you prefer.

Cascade hops are mainly citrusy with a bit of floral/fruity character. Very little earthy/grassy character. Could they have been Argentinian Cascade's?
