DIY Mash Paddle Wood?

People say not to use woods that are going to give any flavors to the wort; woods that are most likely to do this are those that are high in oil content.
As Brazilian Rosewood is used to make rosewood oil, which is used in perfumery, there are better choices.

Given the relatively short contact time with the mash, I would use it. It's going to be beautiful! Almost too nice for that purpose.
Just soak in some hot PBW once in awhile to "neutralize" whatever oils have crept to the surface.

I made one out of a bourbon barrel stave. I haven't used it yet. Anyone have any experience with this?
No, but doesn't that make it curved and fairly narrow?

If it does leech any flavors then they would be a great addition to a stout

haha. the piece has a slight curve to it, so I cant use it for any project. Figured it would make a nice mash paddle.
