I'm thinking about submitting one of my brews to a contest in a couple of weeks and I'm unsure about the category. I brewed what is basically an IPA (along the lines of Lagunitas Sumpin' Sumpin' Ale), and added lemongrass & ginger at flameout & to the fermenter. It's a pale ale grain bill with about 40% white wheat malt - came out to about 7% ABV.

I guess I'm wondering if it should go in the IPA category or in the specialty beer category - or something else (herb beer?) I am pleased with the result - a nice citrusy effervescence to the palate.

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

With fruit, spice and/or herb one of the specialty categories would be best. Those flavors would be judged as inappropriate in a straight IPA style.

if you have the bottles enter it in both, particularly if the lemongrass and ginger don't stand out distinctly from the hops
