Buffalo/WNY. Where to find honey

Does anyone local know where to find a fresh honey producer in the area. I was thinking maybe the farmers market that shows up every week here in North Tonawanda.

I got some honey from flying bee ranch. They operate up in Oregon and will ship honey for a pretty good price. Plus, they are extremely pleasant people to deal with. Not to mention their honey is delicious.

Well I did some more research and found a couple of people in the southtowns on Craislist buffalo but most of it is raw honey 4.00 a pound and 200.00 5 gallons. Not sure if I can use raw honey.I also found Niagara Tradition Home Brew on sheridan in Tonawanda sells honey $20.00 for 5 pounds if anyone ever has the same question I did.

Raw honey is what is best for making mead. One thing to consider is if you want to use special varaties of honey. The difference between say meadow foam and say clover are incredible.

Older post I realize, but searching out some spring sources. Have gotten some from Kale Luce in Cattaraugus, seems very good, just screened (no paper filter), not heated excessively during extraction, very nice quality. Got some dark buckwheat I think it was some time back it was very good. His site is http://alleganymtnbeefarm.webs.com/

Was trying to reach out to Hens Honey Bee Farm in Pendleton, there has was a write up in the Buffalo News, but the phone number says it is disconnected. That looked like a promising source.

I think it's a bit slim picking in the area for good raw honey right now being that the spring flows probably won't be harvestable for a while yet.

I have been buying it at the Broadway Market in Buffalo. I have also heard about hens honey farm in Pendleton but have not contacted her yet. Thank for the update. I might give your guys a try next batch.

Ah the Broadway Market I didn't think of that. Are there people selling 5 gallon buckets there?

If you find a contact for Hen's Honey please let me know. The web site seems to not exist and the phone # I found in an article says disconnected. This is the article.

Also they use IPM and talk about heavy mite loads so I am guessing they had to dose the hives with something pretty heavily for mites. Many places probably treat for mites and stuff whether they mention it or not, just hopefully the stuff isn't too nasty.

There is Right From The Hive located in Slate Hill, NY. The offer an awesome raw wildflower honey in essentially any amount you want.

I get mine from Walker's Fruit Farm in Dunkirk. You gotta call ahead and they are only open on Saturdays, but you get raw honey @ $130 for 5 gallons. Not sure what type, most likely wildflower. But it tastes delicious and makes a great mead. Plus they have winemaking stuff there too and more juices than one would know what to do with.

great to hear from a fellow N T mazer. Niagara Tradition sells gallon size. Doans Honey Farm from Hamlin NY has some good honey[just west of Rochester]. I have not found any bulk suppliers in our backyard yet though.

They sure do have a ton of juices. I didn't realize they had honey either until I was standing in the warehouse waiting for some juice and saw a small sign with their honey prices.

You might try contacting Earle Estates Meadery. It's a bit of a drive from Buffalo, but last time I was visiting my folks in Rochester we took a trip down. We must've tried 10 different meads, all of them good to excellent. They might sell you some of their honey, which I believe is all harvested on property if I remember correctly.
