I've put together a recipe for my first attempt at an extract (with steeping grains) DIIPA. I'm interested in trying out both Simcoe and Columbus, so I thought I'd use those two hops primarily. I haven't made a hop-bomb of a beer yet, and I decided it's about time.

Any thoughts on the hop schedule - is it going to be too bitter? I do love bitter, but I don't want it to be too strong. I could change the 30 minute additions, but I'm not really sure what kind of target IBU I should be going for.

Beer Smith estimates 9.1% ABV.

Dunno. Bet it will be a little sweet with extract plus a pound of crystal.

I would decrease the crystal, probably decrease the carapils to .25 lb, and up the Munich (if Munich is steepable rather than requiring a mash).

Crystal adds sweet. Extract is already sort of sweet.

This is purely my 2 cents.

Yeah, the thought was the the sugar would help dry it out. I stole the steeping grains from a Midwest Simcoe IPA kit, not sure if they are the best option.

Ok. I think I'll drop the carapils, I know its already in DME but stole grains from midwest. And l'll cut the crystal a bit.
