this is my beer chiller, must chiller systems use special beer/glycol lines but I decided to make mine from scratch with a beer line in the glycol mixture chiller by a refrigerant line, the unit is driven by a 1/3 hp compressor and the refrigerant is cooled by a fan and condenser, the glycol mixture sits in a 6 pack plastic cooler box with two coils of soft drawn Copper pipe one of 1/2 inch for the evaporator and one of 1/4 inch for the beer line. cooling from scratch takes 30 mins from 32 to 5 degrees C.
experience proved the 1/4 inch pipe a little small as the beer flow is a bit slow but it works well and cost a quarter of the price of a commercial chiller. control was with a cheap temperature controller from ebay and a 12v 400mA power supply. also used was a small submersible pump from ebay to keep the glycol mixture circulating.
