I will be planting with a southern exposure but have a dumb question to ask. Should my rhizomes be planted to the south and the bines grow up a string to the north, or the other way around?

My plants are lined up east-west with the drops barely on the north side of the line. But that's mostly because the row is along the south side of my house. If the row was out in the middle of a field I'd just put the drops straight up from the crowns...

Cheers!

thanks. Straight up would likely be best, but I was thinking I could save on materials if the bines grew up on angled lines. This would let me use a shorter vertical section. Wood? Steel or PVC piping? I'm thinking wood.
