1950s GE Fridge to Kegerator - with some mods

Use a heat gun and paper towel to knock that wax off. Won't be a problem at all. Those are friction nuts, I believe, and like kerber said, they just pry off. You can kind of "unthread" them.

    American Brewery Lamp

That's pretty sharp. Did you do anything to "finish" the pipe surfaces?

Do this and then let us know the results. The rheostat on these is a mechanical marvel with lots of potential for breakages too.

1950s GE Fridge to Kegerator - with some mods

You can do it almost anywhere, there's about 4" of insulation on all the sides. To do this you'd use a bulkhead fitting that's rated for your intended pressure. Look them up, it's essentially what the tail of a beer faucet is. I'd do the hole right below the wire shelf to help hide it visually...

1950s GE Fridge to Kegerator - with some mods

Having kegged beer again is starting to be my biggest motivator. Almostttt regret going down this road. Almost. :D

Looks great, did you have the jewelry rechromed? That fridge was in rough shape! :mug: And lastly: Most unexciting update post ever, but another big hurdle overcome... I got the oil canning out of the bad side of the box. If you are unfamiliar with this term, it's when a flat (rarely...

You're making me blush, thanks for the kind words. I'll gladly help you out with the STC once I get there :) I couldn't pass up how well the STC fit in that freezer box area and reallllly didn't want a controller on the side/back/underneath the fridge that was hard to get to. Sorry it took...

Questions about regulator / gas system for large keezer project

Step by step here: ***edit: that WILL work for dual gas sources. would be cool to just have a how swap-able manifold for this*** Better to have additional valves on the "out" or low pressure side of the regulators. Then you can effectively gang them together. However, you must keep...

I would hardly call it skill - mostly luck and patience. Thanks for the kind words.

My insane 25 Gal, 100 Percent Hard Plumbed Tri-Clover, Automated Tippy Build

Sorry, I meant to mean they flash off (necessitating the PPE) but are also an ingredient in the hardener. Good info that they can be reactivated from heat exposure. I would really love to see some tests on this, if there are any at all. After all, auto paint can hit around 120F in the sun...

My insane 25 Gal, 100 Percent Hard Plumbed Tri-Clover, Automated Tippy Build

Sorry I missed this in my last book of a post, but Rustoleum makes a very stable high build primer available at Home Depot and Lowes, etc. It's proven to be very stable, and I understand they even sell specific mixtures to specific parts of the country to help with paint dry times (think...

My insane 25 Gal, 100 Percent Hard Plumbed Tri-Clover, Automated Tippy Build

Thanks, I agree, this type of info is often hard to find - but I'm always happy to help. So, I tried to read back a few pages to help myself understand your setup so I could answer your questions more effectively. If I've misinterpreted something, let me know, and I'll adjust my approach...

I guess this Bud's update's for you, Stealthcruiser. Howdy all, Little bit of work today - after all, you don't want to over-do it. Got the bottom panel made and fitted. Same procedure as before, but with only one panel to "raise". I had trouble getting this one square. I wobbled on my...

My insane 25 Gal, 100 Percent Hard Plumbed Tri-Clover, Automated Tippy Build

Fellas, it's probably too late now, but my two cents for painting steel are as follows: Use 36 grit to strip the mill scale off of the steel. If this isn't working too well, try some muriatic acid. Read up on the safety precautions before you go this route. Hit it with 80 grit next. You can...

1950s GE Fridge to Kegerator - with some mods

I got the wife to crank on my handle (bead roller handle gutter brains) and got the raised panels made for the top piece. Wasn't too hard, there's a slight wobble in it that I can blend out easily with the high build primer. The panel heights are not quite perfect, but all of the contours were...

1950s GE Fridge to Kegerator - with some mods

Small update today: Finally back in town after a 3 week hiatus saving the world in California. Gave me some time to track down and buy these from Summit Racing: Oh yeah, hammer was about $25 and the dolly was around $40 I think. Many thanks to the guys at allmetalshaping.com for...

1950s GE Fridge to Kegerator - with some mods

You are correct, there is only about 3" of dead space in mine as well. I plan to stretch the outer shell by the same amount, 10.5". I will build an adjustable "floor" support for the inner shell to accommodate for the increased depth and weight. I wish I could have gotten away with only...

1950s GE Fridge to Kegerator - with some mods

Finally back after a hiatus of working on the cube table, building a power supply to make an electrolysis tank, and starting a new job. Fortunately that one left me with a week at the house to get some fab time in on the kegerator. First things first - I reworked the regulator tree. I didn't...
