    Summer 2023 Corny Keg "Giveaway

My understanding is that we're supposed to get 8-10 depending on pressures and whatnot, but the most I've gotten is 3 because everything leaks everywhere all the time.

    Batch-to-Keg Size Sanity Check

Ya I meant purge-and-vent to empty out the oxygen in the keg, then fill it up and put it on the gas. Probably not ideal, but picking up a smaller keg may be cost-prohibitive

Which beer style is most associated with your nation?

I mean in the native dialect of the region in which I live, Boh's and O's, hon.

    Batch-to-Keg Size Sanity Check

Hi Gang Short version: Is there any harm in putting a 1-gallon batch into a 5-gallon corny keg? Longer version Okay so over the last few years I've been dealing with a string of injuries that made me temporarily unable or at least hesitant to lift any sort of weight - a torn labrum in my...

What are your tips for keeping costs down

I found that my costs dropped a bit when I went all-grain, but there were a couple sacrificial batches in there while I dialed in the process. Helps if you can buy in bulk.

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

I'm 0-2 in brewing this one a totally different recipe. I came down with the plague the day after brewing the first batch, and had an overheated fermentation with the second batch. Is the third time the charm? Maybe it's time to try this one instead.

    What Did I Botch

Good, glad it sounds like a fermentation problem rather than a process problem. I can control for that (I didn't, but I can). Bag from the LHBS says campden tabs. Used half a tab for 5 gallons of water in the keg - may have had an extra untreated gallon in there, but I don't recall having...

    What Did I Botch

Yeah I think it's fair to say it's Band-Aid-ish. There's a sharp bitterness to it that also tastes kinda synthetic. Reminds me of some oil or another a former lady friend introduced me to. Tasted like hell, so had to mix it in with your smoothie or whatever.

    What Did I Botch

Okay so my technically second All Grain brew day, made a half batch of Edwort's Bee Cave Pale Ale. Used tap water treated with a campden tablet, since bottled was hard to come by due to the coronavirus. Brew day went great - hit my mash volumes and temperatures, boil and final volumes looked...

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

I brewed my half batch on Sunday, and it too was a bit chunky. Figured I maybe didn't vorlauf long enough or let it settle out enough before.

Add campden to priming sugar water before bottling?

Don't know about where Hout is, but around here the grocery stores are limiting how much water you can buy at a time. Normally I use Deer Park, but I'm going with tap water tomorrow. Hoping to get two brews going. Picked up some campden tabs yesterday at the LHBS. We'll see how the beers turn out.

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

Brewing up a half batch of this tomorrow. I have enough grain to do a full, but I'm not comfortable lifting a ~40-lb bucket of brew on account of a lingering injury. Haven't brewed since February, lookin forward to getting after it.

    Nolanbrau Returns

Took advantage of the nice weather this afternoon and brewed my first all-grain. Things went really smoothly. Couple of rookie mistakes and miscalculations (thirsty grains and a bigger-than-normal boil off), so I wound up with 4 gallons at the end of the day. Now I know better for next time.

    Nolanbrau Returns

Converted Igloo cooler with a false bottom. I usually use Deer Park from the Costco. Six packs of gallons for like four bucks. The Washington Suburban *coughmumblemumble*publishes a water quality report somewhat annually, though I confess that's a bit above my pay grade, and I've not gotten...

    Nolanbrau Returns

Getting ready to get back into the hobby after a long time off. Better, I'm making the jump to all grain, thanks to an infusion of Christmas and Birthday gift cards. First beer up is Edwort's Pale Ale. Got back from the LHBS a couple hours ago with the ingredients, just need to find time and...

    Firing Back Up

Okay, so maybe I'm not as rock solid on the leak as I'd hoped. I put the gas on the water keg for a day or two, then turned the gas off and let it sit. To my mind, and maybe I'm way wrong here, the system should have maintained pressure. Here's what the meter read that night: and then here's...

    Firing Back Up

For what it's worth, I wound up soaking everything in PBW and then Starsan. Replaced one beer line. Broke down my kegs, soaked and cleaned them, put 'em back together and charged them up. Wound up replacing a gas post in one keg and a couple poppets. The regulator and gas-out lines held a...
