    boneyard recipe

Bump. Hop venom is one of the best beers I've had. Got a growler on a cross-country trip through Bend a few years ago, and haven't had it since. I'm curious if anyone has come close to cloning this.

Chocolate peppermint stout? Sounds awesome! My favorite ice cream flavor is mint chocolate chip. Recipe?

Funny things you've overheard about beer

I got some Sierra Nevada Torpedo on sale the other day. I figured out why it was on sale pretty quickly. Now I have to finish a whole case of it. Way past its prime. Not overheard, but kinda funny, like point your finger and laugh at me.

    Best commercial APA's

SNPA for me as well. I've had tons of beers, but SNPA is still delicious. It spurned my love for cascades. Plus it's readily available at most places.

Awesome! I bet they smell great. I'm jealous. What varieties are you growing?

That's amazing that you can grow hops well at our latitude. I don't have Facebook, so can't see the pics. All I can grow in this drought and heat are squash, okra, and a few tomatoes, lol.

Cool! Yeah I'd like to know, too. I checked out the brewpub in Portales for the first time this week. Good food, decent beer. My wife liked the brown ale and stout. I liked the fresh IPA.

Muleshoe home brewer here. It seems that we are few and far between out here. Nice to know there's a couple other people who appreciate good beer near by.

[slow clap] POTD! Winner! Stop the internets for the rest of the day.

    Using roasted malts for clarity.

Papazian says to add it at the end of the mash, but the other guy recommends adding it directly to the boil. Mash makes more sense to me. Which is correct? Either way, Im probably never going to try it... Bc Yooper said so. Lol

    Water help

Check out the water chemistry primer sticky in the brewing science forum. It'll give you a starting point. It helped me! I have terrible water and just brewed a spectacular IPA thanks to some of the tips in that thread.

Funny things you've overheard about beer

Same thing happened to me at a sports/wings bar. I ordered a San Adams, but got some cloudy (tasty) wheat beer. Waitress insisted that it was Sam Adams when it clearly was not. Another person at our table actually had a Sam Adams, and my beer looked nothing like it. Anyway, I liked it, so I...

    Acidulated Malt

I use it bc my water is very alkaline, so when I'm brewing a lighter colored beer, it lowers the mash pH. Also, it adds a little flavor depth/complexity that u won't get with straight-up acid addition.

Funny things you've overheard about beer

My BIL loves most of my homebrew, but usually drinks only Coors Light. His favorite beer is Bud Light Lime, but he can "only drink 1 or 2 at a time because it's so strong. And he (effing) hates Miller Lite. It tastes terrible!" then he makes the bitter beer face. He drank 1 HB porter tonight...

    Husky Tannic Taste, pH?

I'm getting the same thing here in West Texas for the 3 beers I've brewed here, and our water comes from an underground aquifer and is very hard. I have done a 50/50 mix with RO water with my last brew, and it was better. My Guinness clone with acidulated malt turned out fantastic. I need acid...

Thanks. I'll go to the store today and see what they have.

    Adding fruit to keg?

Nobody has any thoughts on this? I was hoping to get it done today... Thanks!
