    Cold Crash Mistake

Next time don't CC using a blowoff. Instead, use a 3-piece airlock. Fill it a bit below the recommended line with vodka. The vodka will be siphoned slightly but at some point only air (something has to go in). You can test it by plugging a tube at the bottom of the airlock, fill it at the line...

Where to buy Harris Stay-Brite #8 solder in Canada?

I ended up finding the stuff at a local weld shop in Montreal. Had to be special ordered and took 3 weeks to arrive but prices were comparable to what I found US online or on EBay. 95$ for 1lb StayBrite-8 and around 20$ for 16oz liquid StayClear Flux.

    Bottling from secondary Fermentor?

Let's say the trub is not trub, but beer, and you leave it at the bottom anyway. You'll still have to count it for your sugar addition because the sugar is gonna go in that part of beer too. If you consider trub as being mostly 90% liquid (therefore beer), the sugar is probably going to go...

    Bottling from secondary Fermentor?

This is a wrong assumption. If you consider the trub and sediments are mostly liquid and go with the assumption the added sugar is gonna go through them, the actual volume in which the sugar is diluting is the total volume including the trub. If you pitch sugar for 5 gallons into 5 gallons +...

    Bottling from secondary Fermentor?

Sediments can be considered as beer volume because they are essentially fully soaked. It could be argued that sugar won't go through them as fast as the rest of the beer though. I consider them as beer. I've bottled from secondary lots of times... Let the sugar diffuse for a good 30 minutes...

    Re-Yeast my Russian Imperial Stout?

Actually it went down there in about 2 weeks! It's been stuck there for 2 weeks....! ;-) Not much signs of fusel alcohol so I guess the yeasts were just very healthy. Pitched barely at the end of high krausen and used pure O2. My fridge died on me right when I started but managed the good old...

    Re-Yeast my Russian Imperial Stout?

Hi everyone, I've got some kind of pseudo-philosophical question. I have a Russian Imperial Stout in the fermenter. Been in the primary for one month, I've been upping the temp toward the end up to 23 degrees Celsius along with 3-4 rousing from time to time. It's done. It' not going to get...
