    trusting my software

Not a big deal but I thought it was worth sharing. I was doing a 5 gallon batch of an amber ale. Beersmith call for a total of 8.2 gallons of water (this is to include all my losses until I reach the fermenter). After sparging I still had 72oz of water set aside that did not get used and my boil...

    brewing foul?

I had been leaving it in the middle of the chiller while the temp was dropping for ease of checking. How does everyone else do it. So everyone knows, I am teachable, this was my 4th batch of beer in 2 months. I am still a noob willing to take advice.

    brewing foul?

Not sure, either it was hit by the chiller being removed or whacked with the spoon. Didnt notice it was broken until after it was transferred to the primary.

    brewing foul?

I was thinking I would transfer to the secondary and use a fine strainer. I also keg, so I can strain it again at that point just in case.

    brewing foul?

Decided to do a night brew last night since the cooler weather has arrived. All appeared to go perfect, until this morning. Some how my floating thermometer broke off the bottom and the lead pellets ended up in boiler. Not sure if any made it into the fermenter. Should I be concerned.

    Equipment Profile Screenshot

Based on the test I did yesterday From boil to cooling the loss was 1.39 total. As stated in a previous post, I lost 1.1 gal during boil and .29 during cooling. In my profile should I just enter 1.39 into the boil off field or the 1.1 and use the percentage to make up the cooling difference(.29)?

    loss calculation

So no matter what my loss is going to be 1.39, whether i do 5, 6.5 or 8 gallon batches. correct?

    loss calculation

Does this make sense: I did a test. i boiled 5 gallons of water to determine evap loss. I lost 1.1 gallons before chilling and then an additional .29 when cooled. Total loss of 1.39 gallons. If Im going for 6.5 gallon batches does the math 1.39 / 5 = .278 which gives me a per gallon loss...

    My equipment profile

here is what I did and my results: Measured out 5 gallons of water and boiled for 60 minutes. Before cooling I measured 1.1 gallons lost Cooled to 80 deg with wort chiller and recorded an additional loss of .29 gallons Total loss = 1.39 gallons The only thing left out of this process is the...
