You know you're a home brewer when?

The wife is asleep after midnight and you discreetly grab your smartphone to read more about brewing.

Advantage of Ball Valve on Brew Pot

5 gallon batches weren't too bad without a valve but 10 gallons became a chore. A Brewer's Edge Kettle valve kit has held up well for about 25 batches. It sits about 4" from the bottom of the pot placed on a propane burner. A step drill is best but a careful hand and a dremel work.

    Cutting kegs with a torch?

I had good results with a cutting wheel. There were a lot of sparks. Took about 30 mins including a rough smoothing of the edges.

    Batch Scaling Question

I don't believe there would be much wort produced with mash #1. Isn't mash #2 just a low temp sparge?

High ambient temperature - what are my options?

I have great results with dozens of ales at 70-74. Haven't needed a "swamp cooler" and lagers aren't worth my trouble. Stouts, pale ales, cider and mead keep me busy.

    Old Rasputin Barrel Aged?

I've personally noticed minimal differences in cellaring an already-aged imperial stout. If a brewery releases a "green" beer and charges $20 I would pass. Living in an apartment doesn't allow me much room to cellar and my local store sells every beer as a single (2500+).

Is it the "best beer in the world"?

I agree, especially with a 600% mark-up. Doesn't this sale offer violate some terms on the board?

    Carbonation question

+1 on 10 ft lines. I started with 5 ft lines and noticed much improvement on pours with a longer line.

My head is spinning! Basic kegging question....

You'll likely be pouring foam until your ale settles back to a lower pressure. It's an easy fix but may take several days to settle back.

    Over-Carbed Beer Cause Pouring Issues?

Do you have others kegs currently connected to the regulator that pour normally? What is your beer line size?

What beer kicked your a$$ lately?

Bell's Barrel-aged Batch 9000 at 14%. Big, bold and boozy. The rest of my night in Kalamazoo is a bit fuzzy.

Complete brewery in MI (CL ad)

We stopped by on a slow Wednesday afternoon. I'm fairly sure the owner is retiring and it's not just a business decision. It's a simple operation and the beers were solid.

    Serving Soda in a Kegerator?

A good deap cleaning and vinagar rinse helps rid cider.

    Traverse City, MI

There is a reason many Big Bucks have closed. The beer was okay, the food is greasy and the service is slow. Their "artisan vodka" may have just been a well pour. The Filing Station was a welcome surprise. The most varied selection of the TC breweries. (Right Brain had 5 IPA's but no dark...

    storing beer in keg

Leave the keg on the regular gas line for 48 hours or top it off several times (at 40 psi). Works when I have brewed extra

    Can these be salvaged?

I'd hold off for working kegs. Parts, shipping & your time will cancel out any savings, IMO.
