    Best Commercial Pumpkin Beer

    Talking about Pumpkin beer in August is ... it's just wrong. Having said that, Pumpking is delicious. It's already in the shelves, and the bar around the corner has it on tap. Haven't bought one on principal.

    What I did for beer today

    Brewed some for the first time in months. A pinched nerve has been keeping me from hauling the stuff around, but mostly better, so a Belgian Golden sits in the fermenter waiting to get yeasty.

    This. Dogfish Head Palo Santo Marron, a "malt beverage" in a brown ale style, but at 12% ABV drinks like a light imperial stout (if we can imagine such a thing). and I definitely taste wood. But it's not oak, so I don't know it's make of it, other then it is ridiculously delicious.

    What's the worst craft brew (commercial) you've had?

    Almost put a bottle of that into a 6-pack sampler, but happened to notice the "... with natural flavor added" and passed it over. Beer should have plenty of "natural flavor" already without adding any. Maybe they were trying to rescue a botched batch.

    What I did for beer today

    Bottled a batch of SMaSH ESB (Fuggles), reorganized the beer tools, moved empties to the basement, and left the kitchen cleaner than when I started. All while dealing with a pinched nerve sending fire and pain down my leg. Since sitting is just as uncomfortable as moving, might as we'll move.

    1103. I was consolidating my various beer tools into one large toolbox, dropped the hydrometer. Unfortunately, it broke; fortunately, I dropped it into the garbage can so there was no cleanup.

    Hops In The Boil; Loose or Bagged?

    Hops run free in the boil. When I open the valve to the fermenter, the first running so go through a sanitized fine strainer. After about two quarts the wort runs clean and off I go.
