0min Hop addition with a plate chiller

Is there any downside to using a plate chiller when doing a 0min hop addition? Does the beer benefit from using a [slower] immersion chiller when I've done a 0min hop addition (basically since it takes longer to cool down, does that extra time in the wort allow the hops to add more of their...

    Ale Fermentation temp arguement

Thanks everyone! I moved my wort into a cooler room in my basement. Although i've never detected off-flavors from fermenting down here at 68 degrees (room temp), I'll be curious to see the difference by moving it to a room that's 5 degrees cooler.

    Ale Fermentation temp arguement

My friend and I were having a debate this morning regarding proper ale fermentation temperatures. I argued that the "68-72 degree" range that is the basic "textbook" range for ales is the actual temperature of the environment that the beer sits in. My friend argues that those numbers represent...

    First time kegger help!

I think I've answered my own question. So according to this chart, for my amber ale (in green), I should have set my PSI between 9-13 since I was at 40 degrees?? This makes so much more sense........Thanks

    First time kegger help!

That is the chart that I used. I set my pressure to 2.2 units and left for 7 days at 40 degrees. So I'm not sure why its so overcarbed. Normally will it pour perfectly at this level also?

    First time kegger help!

So I kegged my first beer last weekend. I set it to about 30PSI (Amber ale) and held it there for 7 days. Now I'm not sure what the next steps are. My beer pours only foam. I have read threads about "Turning the PSI down to 12 and you're good to go," but does that mean I purge the tank to...

Bulk age barleywine, do I need to re-pitch?

I am brewing a barleywine this weekend, with a target OG of 1.110-1.130, and I'm considering bulk aging in a secondary for 3-6 months. What I'm wondering is how will I know when I move to bottle it whether or not to re-pitch some yeast? I would hate to not have enough yeast to carb up the...

    Best bottles for aging?

I've searched the forum, but haven't found any answers to the question: Does anyone have an opinion on what type of bottles are best used for aging? Is it more personal preference, or does anyone have experience in this matter? Thanks!

    Putting bourbon in porter

Actually, Jack Daniels is NOT a blended whisky, and it is, in fact, from a single barrel. The whisky is mellowed through the charcoal prior to being barreled (with the exception of Gentleman Jack). I've visited the distillery on several occations and they pride themselves in the fact that they...
