    Galveston Hop Growing advice needed!

Looking to plant a couple of rhizomes this year. I live on the Gulf Coast (Galveston) and was wondering if anyone might have any ideas on what strains I could get to grow best. My yard has around 4 or 5 hours of direct sunlight a day, I figure. Maybe more. It will obviously be super...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I am finally bottling the 5gal I did in... middish October. I forget exactly. Been under airlock the entire time. Going to bottle and prime with some corn suger. So let it sit for another 3 months in bottle at least yeah? I am in no hurry to drink it. -Eric

    What's your profession?

Was in the Army, joined in 2000. Cavalry Scout! Ditched that and am now pursuing a Marine Engineering Technology degree. To make pocket money I tend bar, and am thinking about "going pro", no brewery on my resort/tourist area island.

What beer do you still buy?

I, like a lot of others, go into Specs and just browse and pick up things I haven't tried or just staple beers I like to have around, like Indian Brown from DFH, or Organic Wit from NB. Also seasonal offerings like Pumpkin ales and such. Really just whatever strikes me as interesting or maybe...

    What are you drinking now?

A lemongrass wheat beer, one of the last ones from this batch. Going to tweak the recipe and throw another batch in the 6.5 Carboy. Also had some St. Arnold Ellisa tonight.

    Shiner Beer (Spoetzl Brewery)

I love their Smokehaus, and wish some would come out this year. That is my favorite brew that they make. And their Blonde is always welcome in my place. And like a bunch of others here I really liked the Dortmunder. -Eric

Can I scale back brew sizes, or is 5 gallons the standard for a reason?

I just stumbled into this thread looking around to see if anyone actually does it, and there is a fantastic amount of info here. I am going through all of the Basic Brewing vids and the small batch idea really strikes me as worthwhile. While I work on my larger setup for AG, I am going to do...

    Texas Hop Garden

Here is another potential Texas hops grower. I am wanting to put some rhizomes in the "ground" even though I know it is really late in the year to be doing so. I would be using some 24'' pots. Really I am more interested in just getting them started growing a root system and all, so that...

For fun, describe the worst brewing disaster you can imagine

I have not done anything drastic so far. But my worst fear is dropping a pot of wort on the way from the stove to the sink for its icebath/heat exchanger. 200f liquid all over the legs and feet? Yeesh. Or maybe picking up a bottle and having it bomb you right in the face. That would suck.

    Galveston based Brewer here...

Awesome, I will definitely be coming into your shop here soon, I am wanting to start kegging and to build a small kegerator. And another Island brewer, great! There has to be at least 5 or 6 of us there, we should find 'em and start a meet up to get together and brew. -Eric

    Galveston based Brewer here...

Hello! Finally joined up after lurking for so long. I am a brewer on Galveston Island, here in Texas. I'm getting out of the Army and moving to the Island with my wife, who is already down there scouting out places for us, as soon as I get my final out here in a couple of months. I...
