1-1/4" SS nut for my kettle element??

    Yes, that will work.

    First Year Hop Growers

Mine have grown to the top of my temporary twine line indoors, so they go outside this weekend.

    BIAB... plus?

This is exactly the point, and why I think it's better than the steamer baskets.

    BIAB... plus?

Confirmed... mash efficiency was 77.5% and overall efficiency of 68.6% (according to my Beersmith numbers. I forgot to answer the other part of your question... I don't do any sort of sparging in my brew routine.

    BIAB... plus?

Nice idea.. No bag! I thought about trying something like that but didn't want to buy a false bottom for my test.

    BIAB... plus?

Exactly... But with the added benefit of forcing your recirc over your grain (which traditional BIAB doesn't do). A keg full of grains will be heavy... You might need to rig some sort of lift system.

    BIAB... plus?

    Exactly right.

    BIAB... plus?

I'll check my notes when I'm at home, but I think it was almost 70 overall, something 77 mash efficiency. It's not noticeably different than my plain BIAB beers before this mod.

    BIAB... plus?

I'm honestly surprised this didn't get much interest, but I guess the DIY pages don't get as much traffic. I'm bumping this up to say that my contraption worked exactly as I hoped it would. I had a much clearer wort at the end, and more importantly, temperature readings of various parts of my...

    2+ Week Fermentation Time on a 2XIPA

My first hunch is that putting your starter from room temperature to the fridge, then pitching that back into wort at 66-70 would be a pretty big shock to your yeast.

    First Year Hop Growers

Sweet... thanks again. It's planted in a pot, so I'll just cut it back when it grows to an un-managable height. At it's current growth rate, that should happen by the middle of next week!

    First Year Hop Growers

Great... Thanks. How far down should I snip them? Do I want to leave some stalk and leaves?

    shipping rhizome

I just had a couple of rhizomes shipped to Canada by a retailer... no issues.

    First Year Hop Growers

I have a question related to this regarding when to transplant my plants outside? I ordered two rhizomes when they arrived in the mail, becuase that's what the instructions recommended. One looked like it had a lot of a mold-like substance on it and not surprisingly, hasn't sprouted. The...

    Insulating jacket for stainless kettle

You must be using propane? The bubble wrap doesn't' melt in an electric system, but if you want to use it with propane, you could try to fashion a heat deflector around the bottom of your pot so the excess heat from the burner is directed away from the wrap.

    BIAB... plus?

Regarding grain bed formation... I just know that on the beers where I do the best job of removing the bag as carefully as possible, I get less "flour" in the fermenter and less trub settled to the bottom. That was part of the reason I wanted to do this, but the main motivation was trying to...

    BIAB... plus?

I've been brewing BIAB for a while now and I'm brewing good beers but I'm always looking for ways to improve. One limitation I was trying to address is that you don't set a good grain bed with BIAB because pulling the bag out disturbs it. I've also noticed that the less I disturb the bag...

Cheap pump and FDA approved 12v 100c

Pumps push much better than they pull. Was your pump below the bottom of the vessel you were transferring from?

Do I even need a RIMS tube?

 I did search and didn't find the link you posted (it had better prices than what I've been finding, and many of what I've found don't ship to Canada). But thanks, buddy...

    Planning brewery upgrade--garage or basement?

Brewing in my basement vs outside saves me a lot of time in getting all my equipment from where it's stored to where I brew.
