Missed my OG with BIAB…any suggestions?

I can't believe all of the misinformation that is still going around about BIAB. You don't need and extra fine crush and you don't need to sparge in order to attain close to an 80% efficiency with BIAB! You only need to do it right. The guys at...

    First BIAB

The shorter mash time probably won't hurt efficiencies but will probably hurt attenuation. The longer mash times give the enzymes time to break down the simpler sugars which the yeasts can more easily devour.

thanks dinnerstick, I had thought that I would just boil down to my final volume. I expect this may cause some flavour issues (camelization ?) but not sure.

I haven't run the numbers yet but I am planning to do a barley wine soon and thought that I will just cut my final volume back to about 2 1/2 gal and up the grain bill. Anything wrong with this idea? Having been kegging for the last 3 years I shudder at the thought of bottling again but with...

I think you can get a shorter malt pipe for the 50l that would allow 5 gal brews.

Malloy, I don't have my manual with me but I am sure that you can pause during a pump break by pressing the up and down arrows at the same time. I don't recall just how to go back to the program though.

Am I the dumbest BM user on the planet? :(Yesterday I was brewing for the first time since June and all was going well. Grains weighed and crushed. Water filtered and sat overnight. Starter going for day and a half. Brought water up to dough in temp. Disaster!! While I was doughing in I...

    Who ships to Canada?

Check with Wild rose brewery, they probably have decommisioned kegs for sale. Also check out the Cowtown Yeast Wranglers, there are lots of good contacts there and if you join the club ( $20) you get good discounts all over town.

    Gloves for the squeeze?

Just Google "silicone oven mits" you can grab red hot stuff with them with no worries.

BIAB 60 vs. 90 minute mash and boil

With the 90/90 system will always be sure of, complete conversion and no DMS. Biab is a fast brew day even with the 90/90.

Bandaid / Chlorophenolic taste after bottling

I'm not sure about your equipment but I went through this about a year ago and lost 4 batches of brew. I still am not sure what was causing it but it went away after I dismantled all of my valves (BK,bottling bucket, autosyphon bottom, and perlicks) and ssuper sanitized them.

godilovebeer, I want to do the same thing. It is the only thing I don't like about the system. The thread is 3/4" but it is a euro or british type thread and not easily found here. I believe most guys here are using npt threads with a heavy teflon tape and having succes at it. Even the 1/2" to...

My first 4 Brameister brews, all from Brewing Classic Styles are the best I have ever made. That includes about 150 extract batches and 44 BIAB's.
