    Westerville, OH Water Report?

You're serviced by Hap Cremean Water Plant I believe. If so the latest report I've come across is from 2013 and available here http://columbus.gov/WorkArea/DownloadAsset.aspx?id=71086 Would love something newer as I'm serviced by the same plant in UA and haven't brewed since I moved here from...

Would you go all-grain or start legging first?

I went all grain BIAB then built a 2 tap keggerator from an old mini fridge, then eventually a 4 tap keezer. All I had to do was add a 2nd manifold and 2 more taps, so I didn't waste anything and could build incrementally. Going BIAB is really cheap and will cut your recipe costs down...

Recipe advice for an All-Grain Belgian Christmas ale?

I've added the candi sugar in the boil and afterwards a couple days into fermentation. Both will work fine for high gravity brews as long as the yeast is healthy and you pitched appropriately. The dark candi sugar is critical for Belgian dubbels and will be awesome combined with some holiday...

    IKEA 3-Tier Shelf

I've purchased my fair share of IKEA furniture over the years and there is no way I'd trust any of it with the weight even a 5 gallon 3 tier system would weigh. All of their furniture is particle or fiber board held together with pegs and cam-lock fasteners. I've actually ripped them out on a...

Recipe advice for an All-Grain Belgian Christmas ale?

Looks similar to the spiced dubbel I brewed yesterday. Also hoping to tap the keg right around christmas. Type: All Grain Date: 10/21/2013 Batch Size (fermenter): 5.00 gal Brewer: Boil Size: 6.46 gal Asst Brewer: Boil Time: 60 min End of Boil Volume 5.46 gal Brewhouse Efficiency...

Could I brew 6 gals, add water to make it 12?

I've done this with lower gravity (~1.045) all grain batches without issue. I used beer smith to do the ingredients but overall I ended up with about 10% lower efficiency in the mash which I calculated around. I also used 20% more hops to deal with the lower utilization. If you do it I'd keep a...

Home Brew Shops/Stores in Columbus, Ohio?

Gentiles in Grandview is my go to. Good grain selection and prices are fair for a local shop. They let you mill your own grain which I like because I can run it through twice for BIAB. Customer service/advise will vary depending on who's working that day. Most of the employees are more wine...

How to add Belgian candi sugar to fermenting beer?

Sanitize the outside of the package and pour it in. The sugar is sanitary, and will get fully consumed by the yeast. I've done this a number of times and it works.

Sweet Stout Left Hand Milk Stout Clone

I've brewed variations of this 3 times now and all have been terrific. Question for the all grain brewers: Has anyone mashed this beer really low? Like ~144-146? I've always had this beer end up around 1.028 because of the lactose, but I'd like something with less body for the summer. I've also...

    Keezer Temp probe location

I'm a dangler. I admit it. My probe sits about 8" off the floor of the freezer and rests against the edge of one of the kegs. My freezer cycles 3-5 times a day on average and never runs for more than 5-10 minutes. I tried the water bottle method and it cycled about as often but the temp...

Fitting 4kegs into a GE 7.0 fcm7suww Keezer (Cutting Corny Keg rubber?)

If the kegs are that tight you definitely want them sitting off the floor of the freezer so air can move around in there. I'm also betting the sides in the freezer aren't completely flat. These things are basically sheet metal stuffed with insulation and copper tubing so there's a good...

Fitting 4kegs into a GE 7.0 fcm7suww Keezer (Cutting Corny Keg rubber?)

If they're converted ball locks it won't even be close to fitting a 4th keg. Most likely your kegs have a larger rubber base. I was looking at mine today and the base is the exact same diameter as the steel. If it was much wider I could see an issue getting them in. I'd try and shave the bases...

    GE 7.0 collar dimension?

I just remembered that I have the plans I created with dimensions for the lid. This should help the OP.

    Keezer height question

Taps are at 41" top of keezer is 44". I was afraid it would be too tall but its perfect.

    GE 7.0 collar dimension?

A couple more images showing the lid. I would guess it weighs about 40 pounds. It stays open fine on its own since the hinges on this model are pretty strong. Its also heavy enough to create a tight seal against the top of the freezer. I still plan on painting the freezer black but its hard to...

    GE 7.0 collar dimension?

I don't have a build thread but here are a couple pictures of mine in construction. It might give you some more ideas. I built a collar out of 8" oak with an oak veneer plywood top. Framed this with 2x6s which serve as the actual collar. I designed the oak to overhand the top by 3/4" for a...

Fitting 4kegs into a GE 7.0 fcm7suww Keezer (Cutting Corny Keg rubber?)

There must be some serious manufacturing differences between these freezers. I have the same model and can easily fit 4 kegs on the floor and a 5lb CO2 bottle. I do use 2 of the older single handle style ball locks which might be narrower but I'm pretty sure I could fit 4 of the normal ball...

    Just popped my homebrew cherry

Maybe i read that wrong but did you really brew 6 batches of beer in the first 5 weeks of the hobby? If so, bravo sir. That is impressive. Enjoy the fruits of your labor(s).

Whats the best brew to start with as a rookie

I wouldn't go with any no boil kits unless you want the first batch to be a failure. And by failure I mean it will taste like crappy beer, regardless of how well you make it. Buy a basic extract kit from Brewers Best or one of the online shops (AHS, Norther Brewer etc). Most people go with...

BIAB Basket sits too high... how to retain heat?

I stopped using my basket after buying wilserbrewer's bag. I've packed it with ~18lbs of wet grain and had no concern that it would rip. I also get slightly better efficiency without the basket because the basket sits ~3" from the bottom of my kettle which means a lot of mash water wasn't...
