    Ball lock vs pinlock

The local guy on craigs has both.. the pin locks are 4 - $100 and the ball locks are $40 apiece I have bought 10 ball locks from him in the last few months they are all in decent condition and I have only gotten 1 that smelled like the dreaded Dr Pepper... JJ

Star-San kills ants and other insects? I'm spraying my whole joint down with the stuff tomorrow! Another fun distraction on Brew Day! Maybe I'll fill up a "Super Soaker" just for blasting at bugs? The foam "Sculptures" are fun also! JJ

    Immersion chillers vs. Counterflow

You can build a perfect CFC for $50. 10gallons of 212* wort chilled to 68* in less than 10 min..Thats as fast as my pump will move it!. JJ

Use Dry Yeast or make Starter?

I just made a Black IPA on friday and had the same OG.. Sprinkled S-05 in a nice even layer on top of the chilled (68*) wort in the bucket.. waited 30 min then stirred in. 14 hours later and she was cookin! still bubbling about 1 bubble every 5 seconds this AM. JJ

    March Pump Trouble

Im sure you guys already checked this but... Is your diptube "swagelock" fitting tight and leak free? If your pump begins cavitating after the wort hits the bulkhead / top of your diptube then you are likely drawing air into the intake and losing prime... Boiling liquid does not create bubbles...

    All Grain # keg setup

If you plan on direct firing your Mash Tun then you will need a full 15 inch false bottom...otherwise a smaller one will work. No pump means you will need a 3 tier gravity system...Pumps are not that expensive in the grand scheme of things, IMO..JJ

Opinions: Full False Bottom or smaller

Oh Yeah,, Forgot to mention the 78% efficiency we pulled out. First AG batch with a 22lb grain bill.. New Guy and my new Single Tier Build!

This was in the middle of a minor vorlouf incident.. to fast and bored a hole in the grain bed.. Fixed by draining the BK and recirc'd in the MT a little more gently.. The Mash tun held its temp for the full 60 min at a 43 degree air temp without firing once! Wort cleared off very nice...
