Large yeast starter for a group brew of ale (yielding 35G of wort)

Oh yes, there's plenty of time to do whatever is necessary. The brew isn't until May 5th. Thanks for the input.

Large yeast starter for a group brew of ale (yielding 35G of wort)

What is the best way to provide enough yeast for a 35G batch of ale (1.056 OG)? I've looked at Mr. Malty and Jamil's calculator suggests I need around 1400 billion cells. The calculator also suggests to use 6 vials/packs into roughly 7 liters of starter. I have a stir plate that is capable of...

    Atlanta Area Group Buy

Skeeze, Brewmasters Warehouse will sell you a 50-55lbs sack of uncrushed Briess 2 Row for about $50. Maris Otter is a bit more expensive. It's not as good as a group buy, but it's better than normal.

I'm in for 3 sacks of US2Row and 2 sacks of Maris Otter, assuming pick up is in the Atlanta metro area.

Can you Brew It recipe for Lagunitas Little Sumpin Sumpin

I had another one tonight. Still flat, but a damn good beer once I get over the high alcohol content. I'll definitely try this one again with some corrections to my errors! I wouldn't return it due to flavor or aroma, but the lack of carbonation is concerning.

    Atlanta Area Group Buy

1234, I sincerely appreciate the offer and wish the math would work out for us to come to your location. I also wish we had a dock we could use down here and just use your connection to NCM to order a pallet or two with direct shipping to Atlanta. Again, thanks for the offer. Does the...

    Atlanta Area Group Buy

1234, can you confirm the pickup point is Nashville? I have a 1/2-ton PU that can safely handle 25 sacks from a weight and volume perspective. The economics are tough since my truck gets ~12MPG, which adds about $6/sack if I have to go to Nashville. The cost of using my truck to go get this...

Can you Brew It recipe for Lagunitas Little Sumpin Sumpin

Last night I opened one of the beers. It was much darker and cloudier than the real beer. It also lacked proper carbonation, which may be related to the long duration and high temperature primary fermentation. Regardless of the cause of low carbonation, it is not very good flat. The hops are...

I'm trying to get in on a group buy. I want a couple of bags of US 2-row. If anyone knows of a group buy, please post about it.

Can you Brew It recipe for Lagunitas Little Sumpin Sumpin

Ok, I was a bit behind on going to secondary due to life, but I did it tonight. The gravity reading was 1.016 at 71F. I went way to far on fermentation versus the plan and I'm sure it's mainly related to my fermentation temp (~71F). This beer will be very high in ABV and likely not hit the...

Can you Brew It recipe for Lagunitas Little Sumpin Sumpin

Bump... I won't know for a few weeks. My fermentation has been on the warm side (70-72), so we'll know soon if that is the cause. I'm nervous now and working on a way to make my fermentation room cooler.

Can you Brew It recipe for Lagunitas Little Sumpin Sumpin

I've pulled the trigger on the grain mill, storage containers, lids, and a scale. While I was spending money I decided to get a refractometer and a digital pocket scale for the hops. It'll be years before I get my per beer cost down to retail levels; unless I switch to a style that is super...

Can you Brew It recipe for Lagunitas Little Sumpin Sumpin

I'll go for 7 days, but the 3 days came from this discussion: http://www.thebrewingnetwork.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=23265&start=0 My cost, according to Beersmith at my per oz prices, is $44 for a 5G batch plus tax, so $47. This time I bought bottled drinking water, so add another 8...

Can you Brew It recipe for Lagunitas Little Sumpin Sumpin

I'm really anxious to taste it! The wort was awesome, so I fully expect the final product to rock. Due to the cost of hops, this beer isn't one you brew to save a lot of money :) My direct cost per beer is almost the same as buying it at the store, but it sure will be much better knowing...

Can you Brew It recipe for Lagunitas Little Sumpin Sumpin

Yep, it was a novice brewer issue. :) I figured it out this morning while sitting on the crapper and thinking about it. All is well now. I'm going to wait until the fermentation stops, go to secondary, then 3 days before I'm ready to bottle/keg I'll do the DH.
