One of my mash tuns is a cheap, used blue Coleman. I could never get it to seal correctly, whether I tightened it up, loose, teflon on the threads, etc. I eventually decided to get some food grade silicon and essentially caulk the leak closed. I have never had a problem with that cooler...

I just use food grade silicone caulk to seal up my mash tun. Works like a charm.
