    Grainfather!!

Well that's a shame. They should have made that button switch between C and F or had it switch between displaying current and set temp.

    Grainfather!!

Anyone else's GF controller box have a button that says rst and has a picture of a snowflake on it? What's that button do?

    Grainfather!!

Yup, had it pointed down, and I didn't have the basket in yet so nothing pinching the inlet part. Odd. Hopefully it doesn't keep happening.

    Grainfather!!

Just got mine yesterday! I assembled it and filled with water to clean it, but had an issue with the pump. I turned it on and nothing came out the recirc pipe. Tried reset button, unplugging and plugging it back it, and that wouldn't work. Finally I tried taking the hop filter off and then...

    No airlock for three days

Hey all, I've got a hefe fermenting in my basement right now that I just went to check on for the first time in three days and it had blown the airlock off. Assuming it had been sitting open like that for the whole three days, what are the odds of it not having gotten infected?

    Festa brew kits

For those who have tried these kits, anyone else find that the wort has a bit of a sour smell to it? I've tried a few now, and they all have the same smell that I don't get with making wort from extract plus steeping grains. Wondering if I'm getting old ones that have gone bad or something, or...

one keg pouring much faster than the other two

Nope. It's been kegged a month already. And I've released the pressure a few times.

    Interesting article for brewers/foodies

Me too actually. Just thought it was cool they were using diastase to convert the starches in the potatoes.

    Interesting article for brewers/foodies

Wasn't sure which forum to post this in, but I found this interesting and thought others on here might too. http://www.chron.com/news/article/Mastering-creamy-pureed-potatoes-no-fat-required-4441326.php It's a recipe for mashed (in the brewing sense) potatoes!

1.053 OG Extract Porter at 1.019 after 2 weeks - repitch?

I know its not that far off, but the sample I tasted was pretty sweet. Maybe the carbonation will balance some of the sweetness? I will check out the 1.020 curse thread. Most of my beers are ending at 1.016 to 1.020 at its ticking me off.

1.053 OG Extract Porter at 1.019 after 2 weeks - repitch?

Hi All, I've recently brewed up Northern Brewer's St. Paul Porter. Its mostly dark LME for fermentables, with about .5lb steeping grains. I used a 3 month old Wyeast Ringwood smackpack with no starter (dumb, I know). OG was 1.053 and its at 1.019 after two weeks. Was hoping for...

    St. Paul Porter Yeast Question

I made it with the Ringwood and it was delicious.

FAQ: Aluminum Pots for Boil Kettles?

Picked up a new 48L aluminum pot yesterday. I boiled about 26L in it to build up the oxide layer. As seen in the picture, it's quite dark up to where the water line was. As long as I'm never boiling more than around 23L of wort, should I be worried about the upper half of the pot not having...

bottling from keg - sanitize bottles?

If you're bottling from the keg (with a beer gun, racking cane with stopper, etc.), and you'll be drinking those beers withing 3-4 days, do you need to bother sanitizing the bottles? Or will just giving em a good rinse out be enough? How long with it take for any bacteria in there to actually...

    Keg Force Carbing Methods Illustrated

Aren't cornies good up to 130PSI or so? I'm more concerned about the seals on my lines not being able to handle the pressure than my kegs. Would hate to come back a day later to an empty CO2 tank. But I do it, so I guess I'm not that concerned.:)

    Keg Force Carbing Methods Illustrated

Yup, that's what I was getting at. Guess I didn't really need to bring cold crashing into it, but I'm not sure this method wouldn't overcarbonate if you started with cold beer. If you cold crash but let the beer warm up before you keg it, you're good to go.

    Keg Force Carbing Methods Illustrated

FWIW, for those who don't cold crash I've used the following method for my last four beers in a row with success. 1. Put keg just filled with room temp beer in the kegerator (temp of my kegerator is 40 degrees F). 2. Set gas to 50 PSI (don't hook up the pouring line yet if you're using...

    Pitch more yeast?

Ok, that's what I'll do. Just wondered if the poor starter practices could be the problem since I haven't had a beer's SG drop this slowly before.

    Pitch more yeast?

Yup. Gave it a good shake for a few minutes.
