    Chrome/Brass sankey coupler

My friend was left with a sankey keg of beer from a wedding. I'm set up for ball lock, and have no plans of ever doing sankey. I bought a cheap chrome sankey coupler, and ball lock adapters for it. The inside of the liquid part of the coupler looks like exposed brass. Not sure if it's supposed...

American Pale Ale Da Yooper's House Pale Ale

Just picked 1 lb of cascade hops from a buddy. Gonna use this recipe but go fresh hop, with pellets for the dry hopping.

Alaskan Heritage Coffee Brown Ale (Blind attempt at a clone)

Oops! Never came back to update. It turned out ok. It didn't remind me of the original at all, but it was still good.

    Robobrew/Brewzilla Discussion

Well cool, all sounds good! I probably won't get into too many big beers, but I will definitely consider subbing in DME if I do, fantastic idea.

    Robobrew/Brewzilla Discussion

Thanks for the response! Maybe I'll just go with the hop spider as well, to avoid pump issues. Maybe I'll try a whirlpool arm and silicone bit around the false bottom first, see how I get along. With a boilover on this system, what's the best way to handle it? Once I see it starting to rise...

    Robobrew/Brewzilla Discussion

Hey all! I'm looking at getting the 35L version. Moving into a smaller place, so I'm getting rid of my propane burner set up. Excited to save space! Anyway, a few questions after reading through this thread. Has anyone come up with a solution for the false bottom and clogged pump? I saw...

Stuck sparge, grain in boil, had a BS brew day!

Woah that's a nice set up! Unfortunately my basement doesn't have any windows, so no exhaust. And the wiring in this house is already a little wonky. I'm just renting a room, so it's really up to the owner to want to do something about that. I doubt getting 240v down there would be top of the...

Stuck sparge, grain in boil, had a BS brew day!

I think I can attest to this! Lots of grain bits in my fermenter. Pitched last night, this afternoon the blow off tube was going insane! Bubbles constantly, no break! Luckily no overflow, either. I'll have to consider your method! I don't have a pump. Also not able to leave the kettle out...

Stuck sparge, grain in boil, had a BS brew day!

If all went to plan this would've had an OG of 1.086 and come out to 9.3% ABV! If I get close to that, or even lower at 7.5-8%, I'll still be happy! I did add more water after the batch sparge to try and fix the mash, so we'll see what I get on my readings. EDIT: Just measured. As is, I hit...

Stuck sparge, grain in boil, had a BS brew day!

I ended up with just about 4 gallons after boil. I know a lot of wort got left behind in the grains (no mesh bag on hand to try and squeeze grains out, or whatever), and I spilled a lot trying to find ways to get the flow going again! I'll take a gravity reading, and see if I'm ok with adding...

Stuck sparge, grain in boil, had a BS brew day!

Wow! Thank you ALL for your comments, I've learned a lot already! I'm gonna go ahead and pitch the yeast, and not worry about the tannins. I'm also going to remember raking the teig next time, see if that does the trick. I was using quick, rolled oats. I'm thinking the guminess of oats is...

Stuck sparge, grain in boil, had a BS brew day!

I haven't pitched the yeast yet. Would that make much of a difference at this point? From what I understand the damage is done so far as tannins being extracted during the boil. I don't have any on hand, so I'd have to go get some tomorrow, but that's possible if it's going to make a significant...

Stuck sparge, grain in boil, had a BS brew day!

I hope you're right! I just finished cleaning up, so I'm starting to calm down, ha. You've given me some hope, thank you!

Stuck sparge, grain in boil, had a BS brew day!

Decided to go for an American oatmeal stout. The grain bill was about 18.5 lbs (inlcuding 2 lb 7 oz of oats). I added rice hulls as well to aid the flow. Everything started ok. Got 3 gallons off the first run before it started to slow a bit. Decided to transfer to my kettle, stir up the mash a...

Alaskan Heritage Coffee Brown Ale (Blind attempt at a clone)

It's been a few years since I've seen this beer available to me (PNW), and I miss it! I decided to try and make it as best I can. They provide some recipe clues on their website, but other than that I'm going in kind of blind. I can't even get the beer here to taste it, so it's all off memory...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Whelp, I didn't go that far, so let's let it ride! It's going fine, came home to a room smelling like apple farts! I looked up Red Star Montrachet, and it's got an alcohol tolerance of 13%. If it gets stuck, I'll pitch some Lalvin EC-1118, which goes up to 18% to finish it off, same yeast...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

So I just put a 5 gallon batch in a carboy, making this from memory of the last time I made it (2014). Well, my memory was off. First I used table sugar instead of corn sugar, but I don't think that'll be an issue. But, I did falsely remember it being 3 lbs of sugar, and in an attempt to just...

What qualifies as a 'stuck' fermentation?

I'm going to do the same. I'll let it sit for a couple more days to see if anything happens. Then I was planning to keg anyways, since I'm pretty much over bottling, ha! Now that I have it sitting for a bit longer, I might look into adding a bit of coffee to it. Maybe that will help out with...

What qualifies as a 'stuck' fermentation?

Thanks, Silver_Is_Money. Finding the attenuation in my beers isn't anything I've ever done before, so this has been a good lesson!

What qualifies as a 'stuck' fermentation?

Yeah, I'll give it a couple of days and measure again. See if there's an improvement.
