2 1/2 gallon Montana Jar Fermentor

You know, I was looking at this thread a few months ago. I even checked out the Target jar in question. However, considering the cost, I found it would be simpler, and cheaper to get a 4L/5L jug of wine at Bevmo (or whatever company you have near you) and use that instead. True, it doesn't have...

    Discovery Cancels Brewmasters

One of the things that was funny is that out of the five episodes they did air, they had two "near" catastrophies (stuck Chateau Jihau and twist off bottles). Not a good forward facing example for a brewery.

    Homebrew Black Friday? (online sales)

More Beer has been running stuff all day. They have a Deal of the Day which appears and then is changed whenever the item is sold out. Supposedly they're going to have 35% off conicals sometime today!!!

    FlyGuy's T-siphon: a $3 replacement for an autosiphon

Time to keep the thread going!! :-) I made one of Flyguy's T-syphons today to rack some wine. Created one heck of amount of aeration for whatever reason. However, once I put my thumb over the end of the "suck" tube the aeration completely stopped and the syphon became full strength. Also, I...

2 1/2 gallon Montana Jar Fermentor

Just looked this up on the target website and the lid is actually listed as aluminum, FWIW. Since the wort isn't in contact with the lid then it shouldn't really matter.

2 1/2 gallon Montana Jar Fermentor

Cool! I'm looking for something for 1 gallon batches so this looks like what I'd need, adding plenty of room for head space as a primary!!

Trying to make Beersmith IBU's = Promash IBU's

I realize this thread is over six months old, but I'll answer the recent question of why someone would switch. I've been a user of Promash for a long long time and was very satisfied with it. Still am, for the most part. My issue is that support and/or development for the program has...

Promash settings for Oregon Fruit Products puree, or should I use fruit essence extra

I could see how that might be a problem! For me I'm doing something boring like a Chocolate Cherry Stout. Think cake in a glass!

Promash settings for Oregon Fruit Products puree, or should I use fruit essence extra

LOL!! I actually thought about adding a fourth one that said, "I have not idea! Who the heck puts fruit in their beer!?!?!?" :ban: :ban: :ban: :ban:

    What makes a good secondary?

My Dad and I used to do that in home winemaking years ago before 3 gallon carboys were common. Depending on how much headspace you're trying to get rid of it might be cheaper to get a smaller carboy or bucket, rather than filling with marbles. Good luck! Robert

    Stout recipes

Partial mash is a method of brewing, not a particular style of stout. First decide WHAT type of stout you want to go for and then see what the recommendations are for IBU in that style. A milk stout will be a lot less bitter than an imperial stout would be. Some stouts are more akin to porters...

Promash settings for Oregon Fruit Products puree, or should I use fruit essence extra

Hi all, I'm planning some beers with fruit flavors and have been looking at the Oregon Fruit Products purees. I'm playing around with Promash to figure out my recipes, however, I've hit a roadblock. What settings do I need to plug into Promash software to calculate fermentables and OG for my...
