    Unmilled grain still good?

    So I picked up some 2-row from my LHBS about 4 motnhs ago, life has conspired to keep me from brewing. The grain has been kept in a paper bag in my garage. Any way to know if it is still good or not?

    Just a little heads up, at Airgas, Harris Stay-Brite & Stay-Clean are now branded as Radnor. It's still from Harris. My local Airgas had a pretty large display with several different sizes, I paid $14.17 for the kit, including at $3.75 hazmat charge.

    Filtering Starter media

    Every time I make new starter media, I end up with quite a bit of particulate matter at the bottom of the flask. Do people filter this out or just leave it? Does it have any value? I've talking about the un-fermented wort without prior to adding the yeast.
