Looking for cool bottle openers for a wedding

I made an opener very similar to this one a while ago. It works really well. http://www.artofmanliness.com/2012/09/20/how-to-make-a-handsome-and-handy-wooden-bottle-opener/

If you miss OG what do you (can you) do?

This probably isn't helpful, but I miss my gravities for just about every beer I make. I usually just shrug my shoulders and say "F it". It's still beer...

    Worst Beers of 2012

I had a bunch of estery beer this year. I lived in the middle of the Mojave (29 Palms, CA) and I could not for the life of me control fermentation temperatures well enough to keep my summer beers from turning out slightly banana flavored. The first few I made in the year, while the temps were...

    cuts in cooler mash tun

I've used JBWeld for stuff like this. It says on their site that it is non toxic after it dries. There is a thread somewhere around here but the app search function is garbage.

    Midwest Supplies Winemaking Groupon

I bit. I needed another carboy anyway and it's always good to have an extra hydrometer or 3. Not to mention that I was just thinking of trying out a wine kit. I've never made one, but I guess I will be soon! Thanks for posting this Groupon!

    Boil Off Rate Questions

I have a pretty wide kettle. I've just never had such a high rate of loss. This was an all grain batch. All that Pilsner was the whole reason a kept my boil going so strong.

    Boil Off Rate Questions

Speaking of altitude... I live at about 2300ft above sea level. Maybe that is having an effect too!?

    Boil Off Rate Questions

It is pretty amazing. I have a 15 gallon Bayou Classic BTW. I just "calibrated" my kettle so I am darn near positive that my volumes are correct. I just can't believe I boiled off so much still. That is a crazy amount!

What I did for beer today

Pitched a 1 gallon starter into my very first lager!

    Boil Off Rate Questions

Yeah...... I was at the 15 min remaining mark when I stuck my I.C. in when I noticed. I turned down the heat to about a simmer, but it was way too late. It is so difficult to gauge how much evaporation I'm going to get around here. On top of that, after 3 years of brewing I still can't...

    Official Broken Hydrometer Count

I've busted 2 hydrometers and 2 thermometers. I just broke my thermometer this weekend and haven't bought a new one, but I think I'm just going to get a bi-metal 12" from MoreBeer. Hopefully I won't break that type.

    Boil Off Rate Questions

I live in the desert in Southern California. I brewed a lager this past weekend when the weather was about 100°F and 5% humidity. I boiled for 90 minutes and kept the boil rolling harder that I normally would to help fight DMS. At the end of my boil I had boiled off 4 gallons!! My gravity...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I'm a little late in the season, but I brewed an Oktoberfest Lager this morning. Right now it's cooling down to 45 before I pitch. This will be my first lager. The brew day went pretty good. I hit my Pre-boil gravity and volume spot on, I kept my boil rolling a little harder than usual to...

    Purposeful Temperature Drop

I don't think I should take those 2 beers out. I live in the Mojave dessert and it is usually about 78 in my house with swings up to 80 during the day. If I ferment my starter at 65 won't I get some off flavors in the finished beer?

    Purposeful Temperature Drop

Ok so I have 2 brews in my fermentation fridge rocking at 65 F. The first (Zythos IPA) beer has been going for 11 days and the second (Red Ale) has been going for 5 days. The IPA hit terminal 3 days ago, but the Red is @ 1.015 and needs to get to 1.012. I want to make a lager starter today...

    Tsx-10140

I've got a Love TSX-10140 controller for my fermentation fridge and I just started having some really strange issues. The controller will register that it has triggered the fridge to turn on, however it doesn't actually kick on the fridge. I have to go through the menu to alter the minimum...
