first attempt at brewing with extract

It is briess Cara malt, I picked it up awhile ago just to try it. I'm guessing it's similar to Carapils

first attempt at brewing with extract

So I've been an all grain brewer since my first batch, but my brew space has been unavailable. I've got an itch to brew and think I have the equipment to pull it off. So here is my recipe, I was going to try something kind of hoppy like an apa. 1# Cara malt 4Oz 120l steep for 30 minutes @ 160°...

    Light Lemonade Mead

Welp, I put it in the bottle today. It turned out nice. I wish that I would have added another can of lemonade though (I mix my lemonade strong) anyhow here's what I did: 3/3/12 3.75# Michigan wildflower honey 1# corn sugar 3 cans lemonade 3 gal water Yeast nutrient A pinch of energizer Pectin...

    Light Lemonade Mead

I'm sure it will attenuate out to be nice and dry. Its just hard to imagine honey lemon in a refreshing way for me. Air lock activity stopped last weekend most likely. Haven't been home all week but it should be clear by the time I get home this weekend so I can drink/bottle I would imagine.

I'm a big fan of clutch and can't get it up here. its pretty cool when you go see those guys they are drinking humalupalicous and other beers from the local breweries. I just want to try it and have the bottle on my bar shelf really.

does anyone have any of the clutch dark and sour?

I'm in Michigan and can get quite a few beers and have a few things to possibly trade. Let me know.

Traverse City Winter Microbrews and Music Festval 2012

Sounds like fun up there, wish I could make it. I'm not a country fan but I've seen Whitey Morgan a few times around here and they put on a pretty good show. Some gritty country that is definitely better with beer, should be way better with craft beer in TC than bud in flint....

    Vernors recipe??

Yeah, the extract would give you a lot more control over the recipe. They do sell the extract if time is an issue and you don't have enough to soak the chips in vodka. I'm sure it would be a little cheaper also. I made a brew that I wanted to have a whiskey barrel flavor to it, I soaked some...

    Vernors recipe??

Yup, we do it all the time in brewing to emulate an oak barrel. I'm not sure how pop is made, but if there is a time where you can soak the chips for awhile you could use the chips. There are different types and toast levels of the chips available and flavor would depend on the type used, the...
