    Rosemary Gruit : Mash in!

Just mashed in a Rosemary Gruit. The grain bill is 7 lbs Breiss 2-row pale malt and 1.5 oz. dried rosemary. Decided to split the rosemary up into 1 oz. for mashing with the grain, and .5 oz. to be added 5 minutes from the end of the boil. I am doing BIAB and not using a mash tun, just...

    Bags, boilers, and mash tuns.

How many here use a grain bag to remove the need for a mash tun? About to get into a rosemary gruit. Using a grain bag it seems more efficient to lauter in the boiler and then lift the bag out and take it up to a boil. Have you tried this? If so, please share your experiences.

    Rosemary beer - recommendations.

Has anybody got experience with using rosemary in place of hops in beer? Planning to make a batch using some fresh rosemary that a friend gave us, and was wondering how much to use for a 5 gallon batch of pale ale. Google has been less than informative.

Grain bag - yea or nay?

Queueing up to do another whole-grain pale ale this weekend. Last batch a grain bag was used and it seemed to do alright. I noticed when pouring it out that there seemed to be a bit of "the good stuff" in the bag still. Am I messing up by using a grain bag? What are your experiences?

    Sugar wine... got any advice?

I am trying to find a way to cut costs for brewing something good to drink. Right now there is (most of) 12 gallons of apple wine in the garage. Brought it in for less than $2 per gallon, including the power used to heat the water. And the stuff is good. It tastes good, and it packs a...

2 fermenters, one bubbles, one doesn't. Why?

Got 2 6 gallon fermenters full of apple-sugar-wine. One is a glass carboy, one is a Better Bottle. Both fermenters have steady streams of bubbles running up the inside of the bottles, and both are corked and have bubblers in place. The glass carboy is bubbling along like a champ. The...

    First batch of Apfelwein(-ish?)

1 glass 6-gallon carboy and 1 6-gallon Better Bottle, for just under 12 gallons. Each contains 9 quarts of apple juice and 14 quarts of simple syrup. The simple syrup was made by boiling 3.5 gallons of water and adding 14 pounds of sugar, then cooling and auto-siphoning to top off the...

Looks like tomorrow will be brew day number 1.

Got an entire Sunday off with nothing to do, so you know what? I am going to brew. :ban: Only real sticking point is that all heating of water is being done with an electric range. Probably have to pre-boil water in the 6-quart pan and pour it into the 7 gallon pot to bring it to a rolling boil.

About to brew 1st batch, need your input

Hi friends and neighbors, Finally got some malt and hops. Going to brew my first batch, a plain old pale ale. Think "session beer". Grain bill is 6 pounds of Briess 2-row Brewer's malt, 8 ounces of Briess 2-row Caramel 60, and 1.5 ounces of East Kent Goldings added in .5 ounce segments...

Easiest way to start an ongoing yeast culture from dry yeast?

n00b here. I have a packet of dry ale yeast and would like to turn it into half a dozen starters. What do you recommend as the most efficient way to go about this?

    Question about hops in secondary.

Has anyone tried hopping only in secondary?

    A request.

Whoever has the torrent called "Brewing", please seed. Been stuck at 82.11 percent for a week now, and there are a few videos at the beginning of a short series which are missing. Thanks in advance :)

    Hi from Alley Bammer

Bama boy here. A friend who brews turned me on to this site. Nice place. His IPA is awesome, btw. :tank: Already got a packet of yeast and an airlock in the mail this week. Can anyone recommend a good beginning guide to brewing? Would rather start the hard way as opposed to the...
