    WLP530 - What a crazy yeast!

I've noticed it needs a lot of headspace and it takes a fairly long time to finish. Also, the activity tends to cycle for a few days after it gets going - even with strictly controlled temps. It makes great beer, though. It became my favorite Belgian strain after the first batch.

    floral/rose aroma hop

It may be OT, but considering the varied life lessons it teaches a person, flyfishing is always relevant to a conversation! Having guided a few western states and AK, I can rightfully be accused of getting around, but I'd probably trade all of those experiences for 1 trip to Mongolia! I've...

    floral/rose aroma hop

No problem. Please report back post-brewing. NB mentions geraniol - maybe hibiscus has this in it? The fishing's good - provided you have a decent double haul. It can get a bit breezy around here.

    floral/rose aroma hop

NB re-released their Folly this year and I had it for the first time. It's a great beer and the only one I've ever had with such a strong rose aroma. http://www.newbelgium.com/beer/detail.aspx?id=7a0e39d4-77f0-47bd-9eb6-2e660e3886c7 Maybe they'd be willing to push you in the right direction if...

Does d-rest release CO2 from suspension?

Colder liquids hold more gas in suspension, so you might just be seeing your beer 'let go' of some co2. Also, you might have triggered an increase in fermentation by raising the temp. Only way to know is to take another gravity reading at end of d-rest. My guess is a combo of the 2. You could...

    Wyeast Pack Life after swelling

I'd make a starter. That yeast has lost a lot of viability since Dec. A second smack pack might be just as old as the first, so you'd still be under-pitching. Besides, a starter would be much faster and cheaper than ordering another yeast pack.

    crtl+v thread

Yes, but thankfully she hasn't decided to reproduce those in a recent decade. Oh, who am I trying to kid......I'd still look. Back on topic: http://www.fs.fed.us/outdoors/naturewatch/implementation/FishWatch/Incubator.pdf

Is there a fix for a sweet stout that is TOO sweet, or do I dump it?

I'd age it on oak. The tannins will balance the sweetness. I just did this with a porter that I screwed up and it worked well.

    Black Barley

Cool. Would you mind passing along a recipe or three? I'd be as interested as the OP is. My books don't cover it and I'm finding that some HB stores don't stock it.

    Black Barley

Hey OP- Check out Yooper's Oatmeal Stout recipe. She says that the black barley gives it a unique quality (I'm sure she's right). This is next on my 'to brew' list. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f68/yoopers-oatmeal-stout-210376/

A couple of pics might help us get a feel for the place.:p

    any zonker stout clone recipes?

Yep. And in my raft as much as possible - hence my excitement for the recent push to can good beer.

    any zonker stout clone recipes?

Bump. I'm not usually a fan of American-style stouts, but this one is great - moderately roasty and dry, easy on the hops. And it's in a can, no less! Someone must have attempted to clone this?

    Bandaid/medicinal flavor

Yeah, I started with 1/4 crushed tab per 5g, but still had off-flavors, so went to 1/2 tab. It still wasn't totally gone. I did some research and found that JP has seen no ill-effects from using up to 1 tab:5g, so that's what I do. It's a cheap and easy fix.

    Bandaid/medicinal flavor

I had the same problem for awhile. I got a water report from the city and also sent away for a thorough analysis. I decided the culprit must be chloramine (does not boil off like chlorine). I've been treating every 5g w/ 1 campden tab, then let it sit overnight and have not had issues for many...

How To: Ranco Two Stage ETC Wiring Instructions

Thanks a ton for posting this. I just got my Ranco and will wire it according to these instructions. I have a question about the wires themselves, though. Does anyone know the recommended gauge to use? If I step down in size (higher gauge) from what's pictured, will I overload the wires? Thanks...
