    Cleaning gas lines and manifold

Okay I tried to unscrew the tubing from the manifold, but its fairly stubborn after an hour and only getting one of the four off. Does anyone have a good way of removing ear clamps, so I dont have to buy new shutoff valves. I figured a way to clean them would be easier and less costly. Can I...

    Banjo Burner Problem/Question

For a yeast starter, are you putting a small amount of water into a brew kettle. a very thin layer of water in a large brew pot boils with small bubbles anyway. If your kitchen is nearby just use a burner there, you probably aren't boiling more than a gallon anyway. But if you are using a big...

    Cleaning gas lines and manifold

I know I just posted a new thread in this section, but I think this is another valid question I couldn't find answered. I had put all my kegging equipment aside for the summer since I wasn't using it. I guess it was subjected to just a little too much moisture and not enough air and there...

    March pumps clogging/ therminator issue

I am about to finish my system where I am not moving beer around by hand, to having a pump with QD's and hoses to alleviate all the hand movement of wort and h20. I have had issues when using my therminator when it is gravity fed, during AG batches there's a 1/3 chance it gets clogged and I have...

    mini fridge fermenter frosting over!

I am having a little bit of the same problem, and I think that a leak is the most likely problem with mine as well.

    Laundry Outlet?

This is more towards what I am getting at. Never assume things were done correctly in the first place. I have seen 12awg connected with 30 and 50 amp breakers, or the opposite of 8awg connected with with 25 amp and so on. If it is possible without tearing out drywall, make sure (particularly if...

    Laundry Outlet?

Look at Kal and sweet sounds below. better advice. I would also check your circuit breaker, and make sure the total amperage is well under that breakers limit. You may want to buy a slightly bigger breaker for that outlet, as long as your panel is rated for it.

    Laundry Outlet?

EDIT Look at what Kal and sweet sounds say. always go bigger to minimize the voltage drop. cause your paying for the power when it enters your house, the more distance it goes, the larger the voltage drop. I found this http://www.csgnetwork.com/voltagedropcalc.html to calculate the loss. your...

    First AG: waaaaay overshot OG

Calculate what the expected abv will be and if that is higher than the yeast's tolerance which can be found in multiple places, then your yeasts may not survive to the end of fermentation which would be an issue. Also many other valid points were given before, use your own judgment. As ms...

    Sam Adams Summer Ale 2010?

I am almost positive blue moon changed their recipe slightly this spring to be a little more orange than before, at least in their bottles. It felt like they put a little orange slice in the bottle.

    Wort Question

Its bad. In less than a year I have done approx 20 batches, which is a lot I feel since I just did my first batch since may. Had a lot to do in the summer, and unstable fermenting conditions. But I already have a 5ft chest freezer with temperature control, enough carboys to ferment 8 five gallon...

How long do you have to use crushed grains

I decided to use the grains, I double the recipe somewhat to make a ten gallon batch instead of five gallons. (not exactly duplicated but made a hybrid of a oktoberfest and a pumpkin lager to get the best of two popular fall styles.) I didnt get my normal efficiency but it was only off by 6%...

How long do you have to use crushed grains

I had two batches of grain that I wasn't able to use over the summer. I am wondering that if they were kept in refrigerated conditions if they could still be used 3 months after they were crushed. I have some liquid extract around too, but I am pretty sure that should have lasted three months.

Is this weld too rusty for beer???

I was given this mash tun which has had a lot of use over the years. But the weld in the bottom seams to have rusted, Im sure I can get some of it off with wd40 and some steel wool. But would having just a little rust be detrimental to the flavor of the beer. The off color around the weld...

Okay I get the idea of it, and I think i want to use one in my fermentation chamber, but anyone know of a bad or worse model to avoid. or which models are best and have been around for a while?

    Which Love controller is better

I have been looking at the LOVE temperature controllers, and am debating buying one of those instead of a johnson digital. Which ones have people been having the most luck with. Also is it worth it instead of just buying a Johnson digital.

    Blichmann Therminator

So I just got the therminator and have had 4 batches go through it so far. All I have done is connect the hose line to go through the water in/out and wort in/out and flush it out while using the water out to wash down the area. Then just made sure it was nice and drained and shelved it. Do I...

    Help! Wife wants beer

Search the forums for "Drop top Cranberry HARD lemonade" thread, I dont know how to put it's link in this post. There is a recipe for a hard lemonade that can be tweaked however you want. The only issue is to properly make these drinks sweet, you have to be able to keg them to carbonate. But...

Lemon Basil or Basil Wheat ?

I was always wondering if you can have basil in beer, since its my favorite spice to cook with. I would love to see someones tried it and turned out well.

    Wort Question

I used to do 3 gallon boils, the biggest issue I found was a lack of hop utilization. if you are doing any darker beers try to add the extract towards the end of the boil, last 20 min, and have the hops in for a full hour if you want any bitterness. I definitely had 3 batches with basically no...
