    Chocolate Covered Beavr Nutz

From my first job in an ice cream parlor, I was told by the owner that the secret to the best chocolate shakes is vanilla syrup, so adding a bean or extract is definitely worth a shot in any chocolate stout. On an unrelated note, has anybody experimented by putting some PB2 directly into 12...

    Figs in Stout?

My buddy loves stout and has middle eastern heritage, so I was thinking of making a honey & fig oatmeal stout. Possibly some clove or cinnamon added. I've seen other threads where figs are discussed, but they seem to lean toward lighter, non-roasty ale styles like Amber or Saison/Dubbel...

Whirfloc always scares the crap out of me...

That is an insane amount of trub. Excuse my morning-after-beer-indulgence brain :drunk:, but are you thinking that Whirlfloc is the culprit, or are you saying that you don't use Whirlfloc?

    Massive blowout!

Blowoff pictures?! We're in 2013 and demand our beer porn in hi-def video format! Not mine, but the "sleepy WTF just happened" tone in this guy's voice is great: http://youtu.be/UgfubawsrcM

    Dry Hopping with marbles

The Better Bottle does shine in that department, and I've literally sworn (and cursed) off using my glass carboy for dry hopping. Whole leaf hops are terrible to get into the narrow neck, and forget about throwing them in a boiled muslin sack. Placing a sanitized nylon hop bag around the...

    "Natural"/Ambient brewing

SafLager yeast or California Lager ("Steam" style) yeast should work out well in that range. If the low 60's is the high range and the temp is dropping a lot lower, then you might be ok with some other strains and insulate as suggested in other posts. From my experience, SafLager is really...

    Quad-seal o-rings on posts?

I haven't tried them, but I'm sure somebody has. From scrounging around the interwebs, the main benefit is less force on the seal, which helps prevent "galling" the post threads. It sounds like they'd work fine on the posts, but the up-charge may not be worthwhile if you replace after every...

Swivel Nut material? Safe after StarSan super-soak?

After searching the interwebs and HBT, I'm having a hard time figuring out what exactly your standard 1/4" Swivel Nut (silver-colored) is made out of. Stainless? Something else with stainless plate? Leaving my aerator hose & swivel nut/airstone combo in StarSan for a few hours caused the...

    HEPA filters life?

The instructions that came with my pump/filter kit said it lasts about a year with normal use. Unfortunately it fell into the StarSan solution after its maiden voyage ... they aren't supposed to get wet, so I'll be replacing it since I'd rather spend the $ for peace of mind.
