Which lager yeast should I choose? - no lagerator

I agree with you actually - ales over 78 taste like anti-freeze. A beer made with some lager yeasts fermented below or around about 60F-ish with no 'lagering' period, are delicious. Aging does a pretty good job of cleaning up the off flavors. Done it many times - though I do not want to convince...

Which lager yeast should I choose? - no lagerator

Have to chime in here.... Dude - do the lager beer. It will be fine. I have tried this many times similarly to what you are looking to do, and it always worked out fine. Bulk age or age it in the bottle as long as possible and as low as possible, but if you can keep your ferment below 60F it...

    Improved home-made crystal

Actually, there may be an easier way - stir the grains ever so often. Air drying just sounds too much like extra work or time.

    Improved home-made crystal

Actually, you are correct. I have done this many many times, and I have used the crystal malts many times in recipes - sometimes as much as 15% in a really malty beers - with all OG results as planned. Therefore, ignore the folks who hold on to tradition and just DO EEEET. It definitely works...

Tips and tricks for transplanting potted hops

Avid gardener here, and hop grower. The height of your bed will have no effect on the hops. They would grow literally anywhere, and they are almost impossible to kill. For soil I recommend the same soil you would grow anything in - use dirt, and make sure you add lots of compost. As much as...

First BIAB - Can someone please review my proceedure for corrections

I do this also. Over 75 BIAB batches later... As for double infusion, imo its a waste of time. I have done lagers like this before with corn, no double required. If you want super clear.... time, irish moss, and such. BIAB lends itself to a bit more cloudyness, so maybe a double inf will help...

Where To Go With This Beldian Dubbel?

Cut your losses. It is what it is, bottle it and be done with it. Try that recipe again next time using the proper yeast.

Can I plant a root cutting? Not a Rhizome?

    Yes! You can!
  10. jjones17

Damn Puppy - will the Rhizome survive?

While a dead dog would simply mean the mutt was not strong enough to reproduce, and was better off dead IMO, the rhizomes are fine. Try burning them - they will still grow.

How big should a hop hill be?

Assuming this is a serious question, and not a joke, then the answer to your question is: the hop hill doesn't care how big it is. Plant your hops in poo, they will still grow. Just plant them, you will not be dissapointed.

Planted rhizomes 3 weeks ago, no activity, should I worry?

Yes. And worry more if they do not come up by September of 2012.

    Mango IPA

Why would you do that? Is there a reason? Priming with mango's would add nothing, in my opinion. I recommend sticking to your usual prime.... adding mango puree is only adding more potential for bacteria.

Question about BIAB Cream Ale results

I get those a lot (I only have ever BIAB). You get less clear liquids in general I have found from BIAB, but the bottle conditioning phase will settle them out. They just take time to do so. On a side note, I started adding Irish moss pellets to my brews at the last hop addition - WOW, what an...

    Wine Chiller Cabinet for fermenting?

Since you have posted none of the dimensions, none of the product ID #s, etc etc, so all I have to go on is what I imagine a wine chiller cabinet to look like.... My suggestion is: Buy it, try it. If it doesn't work, take it back.

check my first AG recipe please

Please do not take offense to this but.... why bother doing this without brewing software? All that water data hurts my head. Pretty sure most brewing software will do all your calculations for you, and your water should work fine you just need to test it. Maybe I am just spoiled, but why buy...

    Doppelbock not clearing

Please do not use the "I" word. :) Joking, but really - I doubt its an infection. I have made quite a few doppels, and they RARELY clear within a few MONTHS - let alone at all. I do not use any finings, I bottle carb everything - no kegs here. What I would say, is if you want that to be clear...

    Summit Rye IPA

Great goal IMO - I like where you are going with this! I have used Summit and most of those hops many times, and I have dabbled in Rye IPAs also. My recommendation would be bittering with Columbus, and use Summit as your backbone, supplemented with Cascade and Amarillo as accents. I have found...
