    DIY wood mash paddle build

Beautiful paddle sir, truly a work of art. I have often wondered at making a free-form design such as this one for a mash paddle, but was afraid that it would be awkward or difficult to use. What are your thoughts on the this? Do you find it any more awkward than a straight handled paddle?

    More bottles

Beering is a social endeavor. Invite some friends over for Poker and insist they all bring a sixer of a beer that you need an opener to get into. You have a fun night socializing and tasting beers with friends and when thy all go home you get the bottles for your bottling. Once you bottle your...

    What contributed to "cloudy"

So many factors can contribute to cloudiness or clarity of a beer. Certain styles and certain yeast strains are just naturally more cloudy. I personally have noticed that how quickly you can get your wort from finish boil to pitchable temperatures can make a big difference in the cloudiness of...

    Triple starter question.

what do you mean step it up 2 or 3 times? That's what I want to do is make 3 starters. What is the best way to go about it? How do I ensure I will have enough active yeast in each before pitching?

    Show Us Your Label

Label I made for a micro batch of mead. I usually dont label the beer. But I will be posting a few beer labels later on in the year, as I plan to do up some variety packs as x-mas gifts this year.

    Triple starter question.

How bout a 1.50 starter with honey and rasins in say a 1.5 Liter Bottle for 24-48 hours then split to 3 bottles each say 1 liter each and add apple juice, lemonade, and more honey respectively to bring them back up to the 1.50 -1.60 range. Would that work?

    Triple starter question.

I have this Wyeast Sweet mead yeast that I bought to try out in a Hard lemonade. but the more I thought about it the more I thought I might want to actually brew a sweet Cider, and another sweet mead. So is there a way I can make a starter and split it into 1/3rds enough to do a mead, a...

I am new to all grain so was kinda at a loss as to what to do with the spent grains. some great Ideas here, I don't compost but will try to spread evenly in the lawn. The lawn could certainly use the help and good to know it wont hurt the dog if she gets into it. My first few AG grains went...

Stressed yeast--- should I pitch this?

Ditto. My first White labs vial I ever used exploded on me as well. I used no starter, just pitched it right into the bucket. Good thing too because it really exploded. Had I been preparing to poor it into a 1000 ml flask half would have ended up on the counter, as it was most of it landed...

    OxyClean Beware?

Thanks for the advice I will Try a vinegar water solution on 1/2 of the bottles that I didn't already throw out. I honestly did have two bottles that appeared to have actual pitting in the glass around the rims. Wish I would have saved them now for you non-believers. Hopefully the vinegar...

    OxyClean Beware?

Ok, I Like many others can't stand to use bottles with labels. Also like many others I have struggled with delableification (if that is even a word) of bottles. I tried soaking some of my more stubborn bottles for a few days in some oxyclean (was a powder form, like one might use for laundry)...

Building a Mash Tun. SS Braid or Manifold?

Last batch beat up my SS braid Loop a little bit with the mash paddle. I didn't see any breaks but it is a bit deformed in places. In hind sight perhaps a copper manifold might have been a sturdier option, or perhaps less Violent mashing on my part.

Building a Mash Tun. SS Braid or Manifold?

I Used a 24" Stainless braid bent into a circle and mounted to either side of a Brass T Similar to Beezy's set up (though in a in a 5.5 gallon Cylindrical igloo cooler). I have only done 3 AG batches so far but I have had no troubles so far with collapses or stuck sparges. I am getting about...

Whataya do with a Flat Stout?

Thanks for the advice Dogphish. I will give them all a thurough shaking every few days, for another week or so to see if I can re- stimulate that yeast. What causes this slow carbonation anyhow? too little priming sugar? lazy yeast? Every batch i have ever made in the past has carbed. up in 1-...

Whataya do with a Flat Stout?

I racked at 5 days to secondary and then transfered to bottling bucket at 15 days before bottling. Are you saying I should have added dextrose to my secondary and bottled from there? By the way I did Fridge up the bottles for a day or so each time before I tried them each time, will they get...
