best time to swap blowoff tube out for airlock

I brewed for the first time in forever and I'm ENJOYING hearing the bloop-bloop of my blow off tube. It says, "You didn't screw up (yet)!" ;-)

    Lightweight Portable Bar

I'm actually the friend in question. The internet failed me in providing any kind of free DIY instructions, so I'm thinking of just winging it like Gfei suggested. But if anyone has another 2 cents to throw in, please do!

    Tasting Suggestions

Fellow beer lovers, I come to you with a request! I am planning out a "tasting party" which will happen in a couple of months. The people I'm inviting will be, for the most part, unfamiliar with most craft beers and imports other than the sparse offerings in the supermarket. I have a personal...

Dude, you are now my favorite person on this forum. LOVE Reprographics, and Yates is an awesome guy for sure.

    Sam Adams + Weihenstephan

What led me to say what I did was this: "Both brewers said they hoped the new brew could win more wine and spirits drinkers over to beer." It's not impossible, I guess, but honestly, most wine drinkers I know won't touch beer no matter how much I try to convince them. But hey, I hope I'm...

    Sam Adams + Weihenstephan

Anybody catch this article? I'm curious to hear some reactions to it. Personally, I doubt they'll be able to pull in as many newbies as they hope they will, but if it's a good enough product I'm sure they'll have a lot of true beer lovers buying into it.

Has anybody ever seen a book on beer?

Taking inspiration from the movie Strange Brew? ;-)

    Darn Germs!

I mulled it over and was very close to doing it, but I think I'm going to use the time to rest up. My beer adventure will have to wait.

    Darn Germs!

I was all psyched up and ready to start my second home brew ever this weekend (an Irish stout kit from True Brew). And now... I'm sick. Probably wouldn't do any good to sanitize my equipment if I'm just going to sneeze and cough all over it. Stupid germs... *shakes fist*

    Schneider & Brooklyner Hopfen Weisse

I had this at a beer tasting about six months ago and it became an instant favorite. I was happy when I found it in my local beer store now that I've moved to the other side of the country. :-)

Calling all IPA lovers...what are your favorite 3?

You know you're a hophead when a thread like this makes you want to start drinking before you're done with your morning coffee. ;-) 1.) Alesmith IPA 2.) Moylan's Hopsickle 3.) He'Brew Bittersweet Lenny's R.I.P.A. And it's not an IPA, but Ithaca's Cascazilla is a wonderfully super-hoppy...

Wife's reaction to new brewing hobby?

I'm an artist posing as an IT guy (gotta make money for home brewing somehow), so viewing the home brewing thing as art and science is easy for me. My wife is also an artist, so I think that helps her understand my passion for it. :-)

Wife's reaction to new brewing hobby?

Thankfully, I was able to turn my wife into a beer snob just like me before I decided to take up the home brewing hobby. She's been really supportive (as we both are of each of our millions of hobbies), and it's great because she can get excited about each batch along with me. :-)

    Just moved to Southern California

It's about an hour drive (more in traffic), but if it becomes necessary there's a homebrew store in north Long Beach. I never went (I started home brewing after I moved back to New York), but I know people that went there.

    First Brew a Bit Hoppy

Popped open another bottle last night to test it, and the difference really is amazing! It's still hoppy, but it's definitely mellowed out since the first week. I can imagine by this time next week it'll be even better!
