    Beer Bacon Music Festival

Judging happened at multiple sites. I sent my Barleywine in to Colorado. Other's FL. I believe the IPA category was judged by F.O.A.M members. The best in show was basically the winner of all the categories and judged by a "celebrity" panel. I witnessed the second place best of show panel...

    Beer Bacon Music Competition Winners

Frey's is a newer farm brewery. Not sure about what they submitted though. As for the bacon it was being served up by people. They just couldn't meet the demand fast enough.

    Beer Bacon Music Festival

Thank you sir. It was my first entry in a competition. Not sure I'll do it again though. I just wanted to see what feedback would look like on one of my favorite brews, even if it was over two years old.

    Beer Bacon Music Festival

Went Saturday with a group and back on Sunday for the Strong Ale announcement. Didn't even place but oh well. Saturday actually wasn't too bad once we got in and worked our way around groups of people that wouldn't move out of the way of the taps once they go their beer. Getting in though...

    DC Area Group Buy #8

Wowzers! Yea I was kind of wondering if there was something to the timing of this event, being so close to the BAM craft beer festival. Also, I wonder if this is why Flying Dog backed out of sponsoring the Strong Ales. meh. Either way I'm going to both festivals and enjoying some fine ale...

Munich Helles BierMunchers “Helles Belles” (Munich Helles, AG)

So after 14 days at 50 degrees I did about four days at 68 for the dialectal rest. On Saturday I moved the beer to a secondary and stored in an empty fridge. I also tasted it and I have to admit I really want to drink this right now. Exactly what I'm looking for during the summer months. A...

    Yeast starter overflowed

Thanks both of you. I just tried some of the starter after it sat in the fridge for a few hours. It taste kind of sour. Think I might ditch it and try again. Yea I'm gonna have to go to a 5L flask. The 2L is just too small for 10g batches. Again thanks for the replies!

    Yeast starter overflowed

So Uh I made a 2L yeast starter with Wyeast 3068 that got out of hand in a hurry. Been making starters for years now and this never happened to me. Going to have to make another stir plate since the cigar box I used is covered in goop. At some point in the last 12 hours it lost it's lid...

    DC Area Group Buy #8

Same here. I'm not one to compete, but I'm curious as to comments on the barelywine I did so I entered it. I didn't realize we could drop off to flying barrel now.

Munich Helles BierMunchers “Helles Belles” (Munich Helles, AG)

Brewed 10 gallons of this today. Pitched Wyeast's Munich Lager going to give it about 12 hours to get going then move into the lager chamber at 48-52 degrees. I'm super excited!\

Strong Bitter Captain Hooked on Bitters (Red Hook Clone & Award Winner)

Made this today. My first brew in 12 months. My only mistake was I spilled 1oz of the Willamette. That cost me the addition at 40 minutes. So this beer comes in at 19 IBU which is a bit low, but I'm thinking I'll be just fine. Just fine. Thanks for the recipe!

Imperial Stout Russian Imperial Stout (2011 HBT Competition Category Winner)

I got five gallons of this sitting on whiskey soaked chips. Well technically, it is my coffee version of this recipe. Samples taste great.
