    Ireks Malt

Hey all, Does anyone have a reliable homebrew quantity supply for Ireks products? Mine has fallen through unfortunately. This is beside the point of the thread but I really find their malt to be excellent. Great flavor, DP, extract, pH drop etc I think the next best which is readily...

    Corny keg pressure gauge

I’d like to somehow get a pressure gauge rigged up on a corny keg. I really only need it to live on the keg during filling or maybe storage. I had in mind that I could thread a T fitting onto a 1/4 white ball lock connector, a pressure gauge, and some sort of a needle valve. But I’m having...

Who else uses 34/70 on the regular?

I really like this yeast. I’ve been such a dry yeast hater over the years but now I’m team 34/70 to the bone. I still don’t direct pitch it though. I feel like people will get mad about this but I make 600ml of sterile wort and tap just a dusting in from the 34/70 pack then the next day split...

    RO Maintenance Between Uses

Hey all, Just started using an RO unit for homebrew and I’m wondering how you all treat the system between brews. I’m mostly worried about stuff growing in it. Do you let it all drain/dry or just periodically run fresh water through? There aren’t too many practical options in my eyes besides...

Brew controller finally installed at home

For a couple years I had been brewing in a different space but I’ve moved everything to the garage. Added a couple circuits for the mash mixer and pump while at it. Switching to electric was the way to go albeit some necessary learnings. Criticism welcomed 🍻

    NHC 2023 First Round

Short rant here. I’ll preface my rant by saying that I imagine it’s difficult to pull off such a large competition so timing must be tricky. But, it takes an absurd amount of time to post results from the first round. So if you make it to the second round, there already isn’t enough time to...

Source for 2022 German hop pellets

Being that it is 2023, does anyone have a source for 2022 pellets from Germany? I haven't found any available from the usual suspects. I know they say the 2022 yields were pretty poor but there will still be a lot on the market. Thanks,

Making the best, West Coast IPA

Hi All, I want to make the best west coast style IPA being that I love this style when done very well and without naming breweries, I think you are familiar with the bosses of this category. I thought I would post some general guidelines and techniques that I have gathered from other brewers or...

    Favorite Lager Yeast

I know this has been posted times over but never hurts to bring the topic up again. I have been making trials of different lager yeasts for the past year looking for some that I like. Of course I didn’t try them all. I think I brewed with: Lallemand Diamond- it was a no go Fermentis 34/70-...

    New Belgium Accumulation clone help

I love this beer but not quite sure where to start. They kinda indicate the hops they use and you know they use wheat and you have the abv and we can measure the gravity but I'm looking for some insider info on what yeast they use in this beer. I'm assuming they use a belgian wit yeast or...

Who has used Irish Stout Malt?

I picked up a bag for 40 bones so why not? Just wondering about the flavor profile if anyone else has used this before. I'm brewing a Citra IPA tomorrow that I've made several times before with Rahr 2-row. This malt had a much lighter color than Pale Ale similar to American 2-Row. It doesn't...

    I'm drinking a Pure Hoppiness...

and it's amazing. It has a slight caramel and sweet bread malt character but is still quite dry for an 8% beer. Not as dry as Pliny but hey. Does anyone know what hops they use? It has a complex citrus and fruity nose with a touch of pines and spiciness. I'm assuming centennial, cascade...

    American Ale and fermentation characteristics

I've been brewing for a few years now and this is my second time using American Ale (WLP001). I've always liked the English strains mostly for flocculation and the fact that Cal ale is so popular. So I accepted the fact that its such a good yeast that i'm on my second brew with it now. (new...

Which hops lend piney/spicy aromas appripriate for IPAs?

Not saying it's my favorite but I would like to incorporate that subtlety to some of my IPAs. I've seen descriptions for Simcoe being piney but I disagree totally. Thanks

Where to find Nelson Sauvin Hops?

Title says all. I've looked everywhere. I'll even buy bulk, like 10 or so pounds if they're pellets. Thanks!

Not a new brewer but my first time seeing this.

I used wyeast British ale for the first time and have this brown syrup looking residue where the yeast once was. This was also in the starter. Is this infection? The yeast is for sure dying where it was stuck to the glass and there is no abnormal aromas that I can tell. what do you think?

    Westmalle yeast long ferment

This was my first time using belgian yeast. I used the Westmalle yeast from wyeast on a tripel started at 1.080 2 weeks ago and there's still mild turbulence visible through the glass. I checked the gravity today and it sat at 1.022. Still going. I think i've read that they really slow down...
