Yeah please do. I am disorganized, and even though I emailed myself the recipe, it would be nice to have it hosted online should I need to look it up. :cross:

First brew ever = Best of Show!!!

Drinking some right now. I must concur with the judges. Damn fine beer. The only thing that bugs me is the color, but call it an India Brown, and that problem is solved. Fantastic friggin beer, thanks for sharing the recipe. I am a new home brewing I think this is my 5th brew and it is easily...

    Safety tips for brewing outdoors

I wouldn't worry about it at all. As others have pointed out the danger with the turkey is the oil. In brewing you don't have that concern. I don't imagine using a turkey fryer outdoors for brewing is any more dangerious that grilling. Of course if you have small kids/animals, keep them...

Belgian Tripel Belgian Trippel (2006 World Beer Cup Gold Medal: Dragonmead Final Absolution clone)

I will give it a shot, somehow my LHBS is always missing something so I totally understand making the substitutions.

Next step to increasing quality of beer.

I think I will start with the bucket and t-shirt method and see how that goes. If everything works out OK I will start looking into throwing some money at a better setup. The other two things I gleaned here ... pitching rates ... in my book that means going to good healthy starters, and perhaps...

Next step to increasing quality of beer.

So it looks like controlling the temperature might be the way to go for now. Time to start researching.....

Next step to increasing quality of beer.

Now I am starting to wonder how much of a pain it would be to get a freezer to my basement. lol

BTW ChshreCat is your "Do you have a flag?" below you name there a reference to Eddie Izzard? I recall him talking about colonization of India using that line. Hilarious.

Next step to increasing quality of beer.

Thanks for the suggestions. When talking about fermentation temp, right now I just sit the fermentors in the basement, which in summer is at 70 and in winter is 65.... am I missing something here? I know some varieties require certain temps, but what about for your basic ales?

Next step to increasing quality of beer.

Hello All, I started homebrewing about three months ago. I have since done three brews and am about to do a fourth. I am looking for opinions on what would be the next step to take in increasing the quality of my beers. I have outlined my brewing process as it stands now, any suggestions...

Wife's reaction to new brewing hobby?

I actually started brewing because my wife urged me to. My normal hobby would be gaming. Well she always has these creative hobbies like making jewelry and glass beads etc... So for my birthday she said "you need a hobby that makes something, you should look into brewing" ... and voila, here...

Mac OS X Snow Leopard... meh?

I upgraded to snow leopard, some apps feel a bit more snappy, expose definitely feels more refined. Also you can now specify what happens when you plug in different devices with cameras, which is nice, iPhoto doesn't always have to open. Other than that .... I can't really tell a big...

Is oldcastle a good recipe kit to start with?

No not really, I just wasn't familiar with the hydrometer, my problem was it stuck to the side of the wine thief I was using. I learned that spinning the hydrometer while dropping it in seems to help keep it from sticking to the sides, at least for me.

Dunkleweizen high FG..the top blew off of the fermenter

You should really name this batch something like "Top Poppin Dady" ... or "Dramatic Dunkle" ... or "We have explosive" ... I could sit here all day making corny names. :ban:

    Are My Bottles Too Damaged??

Like others have said, the exterior of the bottles don't matter. However do inspect the lips where the caps will make the seal. If there are chips on the lip they won't seal right and you will have some flat beer. No one likes flat beer. :( lol

Is oldcastle a good recipe kit to start with?

One thing I should add. Do a practice run or two with your hydrometer. Make sure you can use it OK. I didn't and totally botched my gravity reading on my wort, so the ensuing weeks weren't as clear cut or as easy as they could have been.

Is oldcastle a good recipe kit to start with?

I just started myself, and purchased all my stuff from Midwest as well. That kit you selected is just fine, has all the basics you need to get the job done. As mentioned by others, be sure and read the John Palmer book, seriously. It will answer 98% of your questions and is free online...
