    Spices in primary

Well, this will be my last brew for a while, so I'm not that concerned with washing the yeast. I figure if I put a cheese cloth around the bottling spigot I should be able to keep most of the gunk out of the bottles. I don't have anything on deck, so I can keep it in the primary without reason...

    Spices in primary

I don't use a secondary, but have been interested in making some spice additions to my beer. Any suggestions or warnings about adding these to my primary after FG has been reached?

    Honey = Hot Alcohol?

Just my $.02 here, but I did a honey wheat not too long ago that called for 6lbs of wild clover honey at 30min. The majority of the time it sat in the primary, it definitely had a fusel smell and taste. I waited for a steady hydro reading before bottling and when I did bottle, it was still...

    Hydrometer Reading Directly in Primary?

Should read: WOULDN"T screw up the beer My bad.

    Hydrometer Reading Directly in Primary?

It's really hard to get an accurate hydro reading in the primary. I get a much better/easier to see reading when I use my tube. I did leave my hydrometer in my primary for several days once to prove to my buddy that it would screw up the beer like he thought. But I still withdrew a sample to do...

    The Colony

Not sure if anyone here watches this show, but as I was watching it last night, I kept seeing things in the warehouse that would be perfect for brewing. Now, let's say you're in a similar situation where you can pilfer some equipment and rig it for brewing; let's also say you can get your hands...

It was a conspiracy to cover the alcoholic racial profiling.

    What would you serve?

Natty Ice. Everyone will actually agree on something: the beer sucks.

Revvy is right... a lesson in RDWHAHB

What kind of beer do you plan on serving with the jerky? These are important things.

confessions of a fraggin beer snob

I'm the same way, if I know there will be beer consumed at social event I'm going to, I'll bring at least a 6'er with me to share. I always felt guilty about drinking someone's beer without replacing it.

    Stomach ache

Learn something new everyday. I think I'll start labeling all my young beers as "(style) colon blow". Wonder what kind of epic gastrointestinal disaster would occur if you drank a young beer behind a bowl of shredded wheat? I'm not going to be the first to try it, but I bet it would be a good...

    Who Likes Bananas and Cloves?

I don't consider it a true heffe-style unless it has some banana/clove flavors. If those flavors are lacking it's just an American wheat to me. That said, I love banana/clove in german heffe styles.

confessions of a fraggin beer snob

If someone opens a beer and hands it to me, I'll gladly drink it (no matter what style/brand) to be polite. But if someone says "beer's in the fridge, help yourself" and it's bmc, I'll grab a soda instead. I prefer to keep the headaches at bay if I can. That said, if I'm on the beach or at the...

    What's your lag?

My last batch took about 36 hours to really get going. Batch before that was less than 8hrs.

Slight off taste confirmed by IrregularPulse

I have found that extract tends to leave a certain "twang" on the palate. When I moved on to PM recipes combined with a swamp cooler, the twang aftertaste disappeared. Also switched over to purified water from tap water.

    Stomach ache

Are you farting like a rhino in an onion patch? I'm definitely leaning towards the suspended yeast in the bottles. You may have also consumed some of the trub if you're bottling directly from the fermenter. My wife hates it when I drink my gravity samples. Just that little bit of green beer can...

    Harbor Freight: What's the Catch?

If you walk into that store expecting to buy an inexpensive tool that won't live forever, then you'll leave happy. But if you're looking for Craftsman quality on shoestring budget, you're gonna be pissed. For me it's the perfect place to pick up a last second replacement or, like I said in a...
